In the development of the Hebrew language (like English), would the "root meaning" be the original word from which others developed?

For example, the root of yome ("day") is hot, warm hours of the day.

I use the Blue Letter Bible and the root words and other words are in the right hand box if there is any other words formed from the root or base Word
