  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Very good post. Could you help me with this?

How was ADAM: "Of the red earth." actually pronounced like in his day?

How would it sound just using English letters?

It was not pronounced Adam right? How did it sound like?

It was wrong for the names to have been given Greek, Anglicized types.

What about the actual original Hebrew pronounciation of DAVID, DAVIN,

using phonetics...

David was not really changed. It is pronounced Da -veed.

A-dam comes from the Hebrew word; "adamah" which means to come from the ground.

There is a blessing that is said over vegetables

"Baruch atta Adonai, Elohenu Melech ha'olam borey pree ha'adamah"

Translation is

"Blessed are you Oh L-rd our G-d King of the universe who creates fruit from the earth"

The first man was created from the earth. Some will say "red earth", but it basically means "from the earth".

It is pronounced Ah-dahm

Adam - human, pronounced ah-DAHM
adamah - dirt, earth, pronounced ah-dah-MAH
adom/adumah - red, pron. ah-DOME or ah-du-MAH

An interesting note related to adam:

Jesus went around calling himself "Son of Man" all the time. Son of Man this, Son of Man that.

In Hebrew, "son of man" (ben-adam) means a (random generic) person. So it's possible that while on the one hand he might have been referring to prophetic references in... hm, Ezekiel I think, he also very likely was using it as a title of humility.
