  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hebrews 10:1
The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.

Can someone explain to me what the shadow is?

There are many here who are more able than me to answer this. But to me "shadow" in this context can be taken as literally a shadow. That is: it is but a "poor reflection" (a mere hint) of how good things are going to be.

As I posted it it seems to answer it self. It says 'by these same sacrifices repeated year after year'... So I guess I answered my own question Lol.
So if you or anyone would like to explain the year after year sacrifice for me I would be very appreciative. Thank you.

adding: you are right about a shadow, it being imperfect as the next three verses explain how those sacrifices in the past couldn't take any sin. hehe :)

Your profile pic draws attention to this, and I tell you that EVERY bloody sacrifice in Mosaic Law was completed by Jesus' ONE sacrifice. Isaiah 52:13 "Behold, my servant shall deal prudently"

We would call that an understatement, but in G-d's economy there is no inflation. There are great and profound Truths in every one of those OT sacrifices, to help us relate to what G-d is up to, and to see the difference Jesus actually makes in our life today.

Another aspect is that under law, the mercy seat (representing the very throne of G-d) had to be sprinkled with blood. Jesus also accomplished this! Not in shadow, but in Truth; therefore it need not be repeated.

Find the shadow of yourself. Can you recognize that it is you who gives the shadow?
In analogy, this world is a shadow of the NEW world. From what you see in this world, can you see some nature of the new, perfect world?

After some research I found there to be a yearly sin offering that was described in Hebrews 10:1. Which seems to match what you said, that the sacrifices are a shadow of him. Yeah.

Leviticus 16:34
"This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites."

So if Lev 16 is the chapter described about in Heb 10:1 its time to match things up... hehe..

thanks for your guys help; seems sorta confusing but its coming all out quicker then I thought.. :)

Yes, but Jesus' ONE sacrifice also fulfills EVERY bloody sacrifice in the OT perfectly. It is not necessary to comprehend this for Salvation, but it sure does enrich the experience!! What about "Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, Hbr 10:20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience"

Powerful stuff!!

Christ is the live scapegoat in lev 16 :20-22; i think this is why john the baptist was born in the house of aaron.

The animal sacrifices which were performed in old testament times were shadows of the Saviors Atonement. A shadow of something is also a symbol or a type of something. When the Savior came and fulfilled the eternal atonement, all sacrifies which until then had symbolized this big event, should come to and end and would not be necessary anymore.

The book of Hebrew shows how the Jewish Law forshadowed Jesus as a Sacrefice, High Priest, etc., etc..
