  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was thinking more along the lines of contemporary country. It's a whole different animal.

Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Faith Hill, and the like.

Okay, I confess I watched a CMT thing on the top 20 sexiest country male singers. Country music is so pop oriented these days. I was surprised that George Strait was still able to make the top ten, but also for his "daddy appeal" - lol. I remember when he was a young, new artist. One guy I knew the name then realized he used to play Ryan on The Young and the Restless.

I used to listen to Don Williams, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson ... generally not the guys who would have been featured on a pin up calendar and lots of songs about drinking hard.

I'm not sure any particular music category outside of pure Christian music comes out squeaky clean. I can recall my mother's horror at hearing the lyrics of Rod Stewarts Tonight's the Night.

hehe technically it's not, but it's kind of like pop, with values(at least with some artists).

How is your mother-in-law doing, Jukes?

I listen to a wide range of dark, black, dense, electronic, goth, industrial music, although I hate genre names with a vengeance. I just listen to bands that I like, forget their "genres." Anyway, I guess I'm on an industrial binge at the moment, with German bands like KMFDM, Einstürzende Neubauten, :wumpscut:, etc. My tastes have gotten very dark and technically dense lately. As far as lyrics are concerned, yes, some of the lyrics can be very dark, violent, extreme, whatever you want to call them, but I've developed an appreciation for the darker side of life over the years, driven by my academic as well as musical interests. I think that it's important to recognize the minority, the oppressed, the enraged, the underground, the ones who strive against what they view as hypocrisy, pestilence, and death. I'm highly individualistic and "different," and these bands fit me perfectly. I'm definitely a "temple cleanser." You must know what the filth is, before you can shovel it.

And just in case you think that industrial metal is inaccessible satanic gibberish (although some might brag that it is, just to upset sensitive mainstream listeners ;) ), here's an interesting article that I found on a significant American goth/industrial band (see paragraph 3): http://www.legendsmagazine.net/140/azoic.htm

Thank you for asking. Thanks be to God. There's no cancer. She just has to keep an eye out on her breasts because the doctor says whatever it was that was in her breasts could become cancerous. If it does, the good news is that everything will have been caught early.

That's got to be scary.

To say the least. I talked to her about prayer (in-laws don't go to church) and she started crying and thanked me. She went to Midnight Mass with us this year...

I was once a huge fan of Metallica and Def Leppard (although they are not really that heavy). I stopped listening to the stuff about 8 years ago because the chords are often quite depressing and the music is often very morose. Heavy Metal in general is a very depressed genera and has very few songs with positive messages. I think of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" or "Ride the Lightning" and can't see what they have good to say about life. I disagree with those of you who say you can listen to Heavy Metal and not have it effect your spiritual life. I suggest that listening to Heavy Metal has to effect your spiritual life, and if you feel it doesn't, maybe you are not sharply enough in tune with your own spirituality?
