  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just reread Matthew 22 and found Jesus saying that the resurrected dead will be unmarried and will not marry. Given the prohibition against extramarital sex, is this the correct conclusion?
On a related note, when Paul says that there is no male or female in Heaven, is that meant figuratively?

Perhaps I should have made this a poll...

I believe Christ's actual recorded words are "in heaven you will neither marry nor be given in marriage". That would mean then that no new marriage covenants would be made in Heaven (men married, women were given into marriage since they were, ya know, property).

I'm not sure on the related note of Paul though. And I'm not really sure about the above paragraph, but it at least seems plausible to me.

haha, well this is one of those things that we just wont know about till we are there... Now, that being said, i belive that no one will marry, But who would want to? most people get married today, because they need a significant other in their lives, but think of it this way. In Heaven, You will have the perfect person to hang out with... in Jesus. who will want to go marry someone if they could spend an eternity worshipping the one, that lives forever?
That is just my take on the matter..
Post back, this is an interesting topic, and no a poll would have too few in suggusting. for this is not just a yes or no topic!
GOD Bless!!!

The desire for a mate is only during our absence from our true love. It's a desire of the flesh. When we are with God in our spirits, we won't have the desires that we have here. I don't think there would be a need for "male" or "female" if that's the case.

I don't think it's figurative.

haha, then we may as well look at the Genesis verse conserning angels and sex... Genesis 6:1-4
Ehehe... I really should get around to reading the Old Testament without trying to skip boring parts. I somehow missed this in my first reading of Genesis. This seems to clarify things.
First, Paul was figurative. The angels must have at least the male gender if they can copulate with human women.
Second, Jesus's words must be read in context. The Saducees asked him whose wife a woman who remarried 7 times would be when she was resurrected. His reply was that she would belong to no one, because no one in Heaven would be married.
Now, this leaves one issue open. Is there intercourse and procreation in Heaven, bearing in mind that there is no marriage? I suspect so, because the rules were looser at one point (Cain likely married his sister), but I am uncertain...

There is more than one school of thought on these verses and nowhere does it actually say that these "sons of God" are actually angels....decendants of Seth is another thought....(I'm not pretending to know or backing either of these views as this is a BIG one to me personally, I'm just suggesting that there is potentially nothing in these verses relevant to the question...it's speculatory at best)

as for the question....does it matter if heaven is sexless? I'd say that by Gods grace heaven will be exactly what we need it to be and we will likely never know what it exactly is that we 'need' until we get there.

Personally, I find it very hard to believe that all marriages will be made invalid in Heaven. I don't think that there will be any new marriages in Heaven but I do think that existing marriages will still exist in Heaven.
