Faith is the willingnes to see reality, and ourselves, as we truly are. If I remember the verses correctly: We shall not live by bread alone but by the Word of God. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Jesus Christ is the Word. No man cometh to the Father except by him. Jesus came to wake us up to the true reality. His sacrifice and resurrection provide the way. God's Absolute Reality is everpresent and everywhere. There is no need to climb a mountain to find it. If we reject the true reality of God then we must escape the truth more and more. Eventually there is a point of no return. Sin is simply the rejection of God's Absolute Truth for the hypnotic alternative, the delusion, the "lie". Some people eventually do terrible things to keep re-enforcing their delusional sin state. Others, beyond hope, are merely the walking dead, without a clue.
On the last day, all delusions will be lifted to expose all souls to God's Absolute Reality. Those who are totally lost, beyond the point of no return, will see the Light of God as something terrible and frightening. They shall be consumed by its power for an eternity, as they try to escape. But being totally lost, there will be nowhere for them to go. God's love is unconditional and absolute. Some - the faithful, will joyfully see the truth of God's love and others will see it as something terrible, since there is no longer anywhere to escape to.
To be in God's reality is to accept his Word as the Bread of Life - Jesus Christ. We must "be still and know" and have a measure of faith. Even a small measure. A desire to accept the Truth; the real Truth. This leads to repentance as we realise the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how merciful and loving God truly is. Tears of sadness and joy flow.
