Silence. It was still as the pale white moon glowed dimly in the dark. A mouse looked up, closely avoiding a crashing hoof. A tall black steed snorted, shattering the frozen air. Its eye glowed like coals as it looked around. Its rider was tall and hooded, their face hidden. A goblin approached the rider nervoudly, shuffling a bit.
"We have lossst the girl, sir. She's probably halfway across Nueren by now." The creature winced as the horse slowly turned. The rider opened a gloved hand and a thin beam of light shot out. The goblin's head exploded when it touched, the bits of carcass littering the forest floor.
"You there..." the hooded figure pointed at another goblin. It gulped and stepped forward. "You are leader now. I give you a year to find her. One year. You can either find the wretched child, or suffer a fate worse than death." The goblin nodded fearfully, as did his followers. The rider nodded briskly and rode off into the darkness.
