  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Heidelberg Catechism, Question 97:

Q. May we then not make any image at all?
A. God cannot and may not be visibly portrayed in any way. Creatures may be portrayed, but God forbids us to make or have any images of them in order to worship them or to serve God through them.[1]
[1] Ex. 34:13, 14, 17; Num. 33:52; II Kings 18:4, 5; Is. 40:25.
This is idolatry! Aren't we required to walk by faith and not sight? An evil and adulterous generation...

that reminded me of a story from a bible college friend. Before he came to our college he was in another in the UK. One of the classes he was in they were asked to bring in/create something that represented God to them.

He made a golden calf.

He was kicked out of the class.

Always be sure to read the fine print:

NOW AVAILABLE IN BULK PACKAGING FOR MASS CONSUMPTION. SOME VARIETIES, LIKE CHEESY OSTEEN AND PASTA, MAY CAUSE SUDDEN GAG REFLEX. NOT SOLD IN UTAH.

That's a surprise. In Utah, they'll eat anything that gives them a warm feeling inside. :D

I certainly believe God still heals, But I also certainly do not beleive Gods healing power should be merchandised as a money making get rich scheme (scam?).

I've seen it too often, churches where God has actually healed people in miraculous ways, suddenly they begin to see this as a means by which they can gain more money into their bank account, and the end result, sadly is, this causes the real truth of Gods love to be perverted into something people absolutely want no part of, and God can no longer work in that place, and many others.

I know of one place in particular where in the past God has used the Man of God of that house in mighty ways.

On One occasion, I personally witnessed a man in his late eighties whose eyes were clouded over in blindness, he had been blind his entrie life, suddenly receive a powerful healing and gain his sight completely ( I saw this happen because I watched wit my eyes open as the man was prayed for) the mans eyes suddenly became clear and bright blue as the Evangelist prayed for him, the man began to weep and laugh at the same time, pointing to different people in the congregation, saying what color shirt, or dress they were wearing, it was a joyous feeling sharing his joy of being able to see!

The evangelists had been traveling all over the USA preachign, and praying for the sick, and had seen many healed byt he power of God in his meetings, see that is the real problem, when people like those in the article begin to see themselves as the healers and not God, anyway, the evangelist I mention, began to see his ministry as a money maker, he and his wife started a church, they had a televison program, they asked for money, all the time, money began to become the central theme of their message, in their evangelistic healing outreach meetings, on their television program, and in the majority of their weekly church services.

My wife and I were at one time actually members of their church, but we left because one Sunday afternoon we were called into the Pastors office, and reprimanded for having failed to pay our tithes that week, we were told that because we had failed to pay our tithes, we would be required BY GOD, to repay the back tithe PLUS a 20% penalty fee (They called it interest).

I lovingly asked the Pastoir to please show me exactly where in the word of God, it says that God demands any penalty fee for unpaid tithes, and I aslo asked them to shwo me where in the word of God that failing to pay your tithes is an unpardonable sin, they couldn't do this so we left, and haven't been back there since.

We still have friends who attend there and the church is falling apart now, they have been having many problems with their buidling, the city has actually condemned a part of it, they are behind on their mortage payments, attendance has dropped to only a few (10 at the most at each service) they aren't getting very many calls to minster anywhere, do you see the pattern here?

IF a minister begins to ROB Gods people, using the name of Jesus Christ as his GUN to commit those robberies, GOD will eventually catch up to that criminal, judge him/her, and pass sentence and carry out absolute divine justice very swiftly and very accurately!

I hate to see anyone come under this but anyone who would use the name of Jesus Christ, and the love of Jesus as a way to get rich ought to be judged and punished, it is a mockery of the cross of Christ and yes it makes me very, very angry!

When I see someone suffering, with some type of illness, or disability, in pain, and discouraged, I feel very bad, sometimes it makes me weep openly, I vist hospitals and nursing homes.

I've seen some pretty bad stuff in those places, and some really hurting people, I pray for them, in love, I feel for them, I really do, sometimes I just wish I could take their pain myself, so they could be healed and never hurt again.

Some of them really do get healed, and some don't, why they don't get healed I don't know, only God has that answer, I don't accuse them of not havoing enough faith, or of having sin their lives, I never read once where Jesus was mean to anyone he prayed for, never, but I see some people do this and I wonder, how can they really have the love of Christ in them saying that to someone who is hurting so bad?

I haven't received my own healing yet, I have degenerative disc disease, and arthritis, I hurt constantly, I just went through some pretty bad days and nights, of awful pain, and no sleep, I'm feeling a little better now, but I'm still hurting pretty bad.

Sometimes I wonder if the reason I haven't received my healing is because of the things I did in the past, which were pretty bad, but I know deep down in my heart that God loves me, and even if I never get healed, I know I will be made completley whole in glory!

I want to be about Gods business, witnessing to the lost, going out into the streets to tell the poeple there that God really loves them and wants them to be saved, but it's really hard to walk when I hurt so bad, but I hurt uin my heart even more for the people out there who need to hear and experience the true love of Jesus Christ.

I can't stand up very long anymore, and I can't walk very far anymore, and now I feel that I am going to fail God because I can't do what I know in my heart he wants me to be doing, and my failoing him breaks my heart so much, I know I got off on a pity party I apologize, please forgive me, also please pray for me.

Back to the topic, yes this is very wrong, and I am certain that God will do something about it...

this is hilarious, but crazy. "God's loan sharks", what a fun ministry!!

I just looked at their site a bit closer. I was only a few miles from their church a few weeks ago. I had to drive Bush International airport in Houston just a few weeks ago, and I was only a few miles from their church.

Had I known about this I could have made a side trip and picked up a pair of those gold plated healing hands. It's only a couple of hour drive from my home. I wonder if I could get a discount on them if I show up in person?^_^

Unbelievable.

Fatty,

I totally agree with you here.

Wasn't one of the apostles in constant pain(Paul?) and rejoiced for it, knowing that it was God's will?

To require money for the gift of healing is beyond wrong....they are no better than psychic and fortune tellers...no, worse, for they are perverting God's Glory...

Fatty,
It must be very frustrating to not be able to do what you desire to do. I cannot imagine not being able to stand or walk very long. Over my career, I've heard many people say how painful it is to have degenerative disc disease. I pray God will provide the way for you to follow Him.

Have you considered checking out the "Questions from non-Christians" section here? Once in a while there are sincere questions posed by people who seem to be really seeking, which is quite the opposite of the "General Apologetics" section.

I've considered getting one of those hoveround chairs, but, I still have that speck of pride in me that doesn't want to be strapped to a wheelchair type thing.

I can still walk as much as the pain will allow me to, then I sit and rest for a few minutes, so I am still determined to go out and witness to some folks on the street pretty soon.

We just had anohter 4,000 evacuees from the Louisiana mess who had been in Houston come into Ft. Chaffee, which is about 3 miles from where I live so we are planning on going out there this week to do some volunteer work, and also talk to some of them about Jesus.

Pray for us.

I haven't read in those sections yet, I've been kind of sidetracked the past few days. ^_^
