• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a fan of accelerated online therapy sessions.

Please be respectful of my time here.

And take advantage as my time is available.

I make a once a year pilgrimage to this wonderful place, ChristianForums.com

As my family has a Christian background.

<edit>

I look forward to those of you who wish to speak with me. I do not hope to intrude on those who do not wish for my help.

Thank you all for having me here!

Hello! :wave:

I used to be a Buddhist and am still interested in Eastern philosophy. How can the concept of Tao be compared to the Word of God found in Scripture, in your opinion? Have you read the Bible?

yes I have, well it has been a long time Theofane, since I have revisited. I am shameful for this, but I need my mind to be clear on this spiritual journey I have undertaken, and I have actually tried avoiding reading anything written by man, and only try "reading" nature... as nature is the only thing I trust these days-- the earth spinning, the wind, the ocean, the sound of birds chirping in the moring; I try dearly to avoid anything that has been tainted by the touch of man, for man can be corrupted;

the word of God cannot be corrupted, but I am of the belief (hey I could be wrong u can correct me) that God exists beyond our 3rd dimensional conception of space & time; therefore, it is quite difficult for us to actually fathom all that is God with our material 3rd dimensional minds;

the very interesting thing about Tao and Buddeh is that you can follow both the former and also be of ANY religious belief, faith, or religion.

If you would like to bring up a specific scripture of line or topic within the bible to explore my theory here, I would be happy to continue this discourse with you :D

I taught a World Religions unit in a 7th grade Geography class, and would ocassionally have a Buddhist student in my class. From my studies, and my students, I learned that Buddha never claimed to be a god, and that he is not worshiped by those who practice Buddhism. I learned that Buddha's teachings are a guide for life. I also learned that they do not conflict with the teachings of Scripture.

I will say that a Christian should not turn away from the Bible and Christian fellowship to study Buddhism. I believe the Bible is the true Word of God, and that its teachings are the Truth that Christ speaks of when He says, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. Nobody comes to the Father, but by Me."

In order to have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father, we must have a personal relationship with Jesus. In order to do that, we must study the Word of God. Also, in order to achieve true peace, we must know Christ as well. Philippians 4 discusses how to do this.

So, while Buddha's teachings are not in conflict with the Lord's Word, they lack the source and ability for people to truly reach enlightenment, and that is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I very much agree with you Madisson1101. The reason I am purposefully weaning myself from the word of God, is that I hope through the process of bottom up discovery, I will discover the truths that I have learned top-down style, and is no one in denial of the word of God, that is why I feel a deep sense of existential shamefulness for having purposely denied myself the comfort of the bible.

In the sense that Buddeh and the way of the Tao does not provide the "source and ability" for enlightenment on its own, I am in agreement there with what you mention, and I seek (the hard way of course) to learn on my own because I am stubborn.

I very much appreciate your openmindedness in this discussion. Thanks! :D

I have been taught, and I believe, that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and is His letter to His children. We learn about Him, His love and grace, by studying it. I believe that when we accept Christ as our personal Savior, the Holy Spirit of God indwells us. It is through the Holy Spirit that we are able to get true meaning out of the Bible. Each time I study it, my eyes are opened to more and more Truth.

I believe that meditating on certain Scripture verses, and praying, I can have true inner peace, the peace that passes all understanding.

I'd like to learn more is that chapter 4. Thank you!

GenericTaoMaster and ChristianCrusader,
What do any of your posts have to do with Bipolar Disorder? This is a Bipolar Disorder Forum. Why are either of you bringing unBiblical teachings to a Christian support forum for people suffering from a serious mental illness?

Just to throw this out there. If you do not know about a book titled "Living Buddha, Living Christ" by Thich Nhat Hanh... it is an interesting read. He is a Buddhist Monk and a Christian and talks about how, like you said, Buddha never declared himself a God. He also never spoke of himself as being human but only a teacher.

I don't know. It was an interesting book and worth the read. Thich Nhat Hanh is a remarkable man, despite any religion he follows.
