Really? That's great! It's kinda worked in the opposite way for me. Although, God doesn't always let us see how our witness affects people so maybe I have affected people positively and just don't know it.

May I ask if you have always covered your head or is this something you have recently felt convicted to do?

I must admit that I find myself feeling woefully inadequate when faced with a group of Amish or Mennonite women. I always feel so drawn to speak with them, but I don't want to make them uncomfortable. I wasn't raised as they were and I wear slacks most of the time plus my hear is not long anymore.

Very true, I believe we plant seeds of Christ all the time and we never see them grow.

I have only very recently moved in the direction of Headcovering and becoming a conservative Anabaptist. The mennonites and amish will always be the first to tell you they are far from Godly and just as sinful as everyone else! Do not be afraid to fellowship and talk to them, the truly are an encouragement and would not judge you!

I don't feel as if they are judging. I feel as if I don't have all my ducks in a row for lack of a better way to put it. I know the Amish have their trials and temptations. There is just something about their witness...yes, encouraging is just the word!

I could not agree more! Their witness was something I marveled at long before I even considered myself an Anabaptist. An old order mennonite man explained to me they try to live their lives as a way of preaching the gospel and try not to use words unless they have to. They truly do this!

Well that is how Peter said we should be a witness, first with actions and then with words, when asked. I have marveled at the Amish for a very long time and find their discipline a breath of fresh air in this world. Everyone, Christian and non-Christian could learn something from them.

Our church practices the headcovering during church time. We are a non-denominational church, that believes if the bible says it we should do our best to do it. This has made us very unpopular in our area, and there are many rumors about us going around. However, it does serve as a good witness to those who ask questions about it. They see that the ladies of our church do not care about society and what is considered normal. They have a heart for the Lord. Sometimes that is the greatest witness.

If that were true, according to 1 Corinthians 11, all men should shave there heads. It teaches that women are to cover their head while praying and that men should uncover their head while praying. This is where we get the tradition of men taking off their hats to pray, yet the other half of the teaching has been omitted for some reason in mainstream Christianity in the last 50 years.

You have to go back to the original Greek text for the clarification. The Greek words for covering in the verse about women covering their hair and hair as a covering are different. Kind of like hi and hello. They have the same meaning but different words. The one where it tells her to cover her head is speaking of a physical covering. If you want to look at it as the hair being the covering, then all men should shave their heads, because in the same set of verses it says that a man should not cover his head. The Greek word for covering here is the same as the verse telling women to cover theirs. You can find this in a good concordance for your bible.

Are there any head covering ladies here? I would love to connect and talk!:D

There are a bunch of us over in The Ancient Way forum on this site.

As I'm not fundamentalist... I'll stay out of the rest of the discussion. ;)

I wondered why, when I first moved to Montana, people didn't want to spend much time around me or talk to me. Then finally someone mentioned that it might be because some people feel intimidated by mennonites because of the image of perfection and peace. Once word got around town that I wasn't a very average mennonite, and later left the church over my stance on military issues, people in my ( very ) small town started to notice and hear how I was a real life person and not some perfect little Amish doll. lol. Now people are willing to have honest, open discussions with me about faith and...well, almost anything.

I remember when my wife and I went off to college, she was my girlfriend at the time, we spent over a year looking for a church. We were asked to leave many churches because she covered her head when service began. Some thought that it was a sin. However, it did open some dialog with some of our friends and we finally found a church that supported her decision. They did not practice it themselves, but, they understood why she did.
