  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I used to go to a church where the women have head coverings.

At first I didn't cover my head. I was uncomfortable with the notion because in my country, a head covering is a Moslem symbol. If you cover your head, you're essentially saying that you're a Moslem, and have probably gone on a pilgrimage to Mecca. As such, most Christians in our country do not wear head covering due to its Muslim connotation.

Eventually, I did wear it, though only for a short time since I moved to another church where the women do not wear head covering. For me, when I wore the head covering, it's mostly an obedience thing. But once I moved churches... it just seems strange for me to be the only person who covers her head.

I read an explanation of the head covering idea. In Paul's time, women of respect cover their heads. As such, a head covering is seen as a sign of authority.

I've since interpreted that to fit our time. Since head coverings are a sign of respect or authority, we wear what would be considered a sign of authority or respect today: which is formal attire. You wouldn't go to work or a job interview wearing jeans, would ya? The attire we wear when going to a job interview or in an office setting is the symbol of respect today. So, that's what I wear.

Many Moslem traditions were actually copied from the early church, such as women covering their heads and people removing their shoes on entering the church. Many early churches were built facing Jerusalem (Hagia Sophia in Istanbul is a good example) so it is not surprising that Moslem mosques are built along a similiar tradition facing Mecca.
