He Alone is God

Jer Ch. 48 is a prophecy about Moab. I had forgotten who the Moabites were, so I had to look them up. I found out that they were descendants of Lot through an incestuous relationship with one of his daughters. In Numbers 25, they led the Israelites into idol worship (Baal). The Israelites were punished for adopting the practices of this pagan culture. Now it was time for the Moabites to be punished.
Chemosh was the Moabites’ national god and was known as a god of war (Num 21:29; 2 Kings 3:26-27). The Moabites would be punished for worshipping false gods as well as for trusting in their deeds and riches. We too should be careful not to trust in anything more than the one and only God i.e. the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). We must love Him with all of our minds, hearts, souls, and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves. We cannot depend on our good works to impress God and to earn our ways into heaven. In the Old Testament, we learn that God preserved a “remnant” through which Jesus Christ descended from as a Way (the only Way) for everyone to be reunited with the Father. This can only be done by believing the true Gospel: Jesus Christ died for our sins that separated us from the Father, rose from the dead to give us victory over sin and death, and ascended into heaven to be at the right hand of the Father. If you truly believe this, then you must confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, and repent of your sins. You must be “transformed by the renewing of your mind”. This means that you must reject the standards of the world and accept God’s standards that He has given in His Word and choose to be a living sacrifice for Him by obeying whatever He tell you to do.
I had no idea what the wine dreg process was all about, but it was explained in the footnotes of my Bible. It was stated that once wine was in its dreg for 40 days, it must be poured into another jar. If this was not done, the wine would be inferior. Just as wine left in its dreg too long was inferior, God considered Moab inferior because of her people’s refusal to do God’s work. God planned to destroy the Moabites.
The Moabites were also being punished for their pride. Pride is taking personal credit for what God has done or looking down on others or ourselves. God alone is worthy of praise, honor, and glory. Men are nothing but specks in the wind in comparison to Him. He created the whole universe, everything that is in it, and He created each and every person with such great detail. He created us to be the way that we are with our talents, personalities, intelligence, etc. We must not either criticize these qualities by speaking negatively about them (false humility=pride, self-focus) nor should we over exaggerate our own importance or receive the glory for our successes. He alone should receive the glory. We must instead think of ourselves as parts of one body, equally important, and each serving a different purpose. If one part of the body does not function properly, the rest of the body is negatively affected.
The purpose of God’s judgments are always to restore us by purifying us and turning us back to Himself because He loves us. Let us submit to the Lord in all ways so that me may melt us, mold us, fills us with Himself, and use us for His glory!
