HDTV and DVI cable

I have HDTV through my satellite company. They did not use a DVI cable, but used the other cable. Am I losing anything by doing this? Will the HDTV work the same? I can't always tell if the HD is working, and if it is the quality is does not always seem better than SDTV. What do you think?

The dvi cable is said to be better on some tv's and not on others!
The larger the progection the worse the picture quality.
You should always notice a difference from hd to standard, butsome tv stations just bump up the picture to hd, while others actualy film with an hd camera.

btw cable cannot produce true hd due to the lack of bandwidth. Or digital for that matter. (i saw you have satellite)

I would try the dvi cable but if you buy a cheap cable you are losing video quality, Buy a good one. It may increase your pic quality by up to 7-10%

I assume you mean "the other cable" Component= red, blue, green. Also if your using the one that came with your satellite, thats part of your problem. Also make sure your tv has dvi input. It may have to be 2001 or newer to have that option.(these are the only 2 cables to support hd)

They used a component cable. I found an article that helped me answer my question. The HD is actually ran through the cable from my dish, and into my reciever. So it would make difference at all I think to use componant or HDMI from my the reciever to my tv.

My TV has a DVI imput, it is a 2005 model. It even gets digital broadcast But, I may have went overboard. I am making payments for 5 months, and I need to put that money to maintain my car.

I am using the cable provided by the company that connects to my dish. I don't know if it is special cable or not. I also have a UHF attenenna on my reciever box.
