Let's start with this. They sound great. I like their sound and they ARE talented. But what good is Christian music when the performers don't live by the words they preach? What happens when a band wants the fame and glory so bad they use Christian music to get to the secular level.?? You get Hawk Nelson.
My Thoughts are NOT unfounded. Jun 18, 2005 Hawk Nelson played in San Bernardino, CA. I took this girl I met (and was interested in) to go see them because we both liked them. This girl and her family had once talked to them at an airport for about an hour before realizing who they were. The guys in the band call her and her family their "airpot buddies". They were on their way to nicaragua. If you see them in concert ASK THEM about their airport buddies. You'll see I'm not making this up. ANyway. After the concert was a baseball game. Inland Empire 66ers and and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Hawk Nelson, on stage asked if they could sit with us, because they knew the girl i took. I made it obvious that I was into this girl...she knew and they knew. Daniel and Jason were the only 2 original members. If you are fans you knew this already. Gideon, which I hear is no longer the "new" drummer constantly hit on my date through out the entire game. "If the kiss cam lands on us, will you kiss me." "I think you should marry me"...etc. After the game she told me was really uncomfortable and almost disgusted. Jason was a typical band member with an inflamed ego. He was no better. "Hey Jenny*not her real name*, do you sleep on your stomach." She said 'no'. Jason: "Oh, well then CAN I?" What kind of way is that to act. Not to mention Jason had been drinking. Daniel was a good guy, i liked him. I dont know the last guy but he was just like Jason. They ran onto the field after the game even though security told them to stop. They thought they were funny, no one was laughing. They'd yell moronic phrases at the other team. It was a disaster
Before this night, I really liked the band. And I still think they sound good, but the songs no longer have any meaning to me. I was more dissapointed than angry. One day these guys are gonna be found out and they're gonna end up flipping burgers. DC Talk...thers a real band. Break up because you were too famous. Or rich mullins who would leave his seat at award shows and help the staff clean kitchen. "I'm here to serve, not to be served" That's REAL CHRISTAIN music.
