  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm really not sure, it was required reading in literature class in high school. That was a long time ago and my memory fails me though the name stuck. But I remembered the hero and Grendel his foe.
I did a quick search and it's the world's longest poem! :D That and it's better than 1,000 years old. You are correct about the hero and the villian.

H2Whoa - you probably want to post in the Liberal Christian area because we non-denoms are pretty well on fire and sold out for Jesus. But welcome to CF anyway!

Yeah... because we liberal Christians are only luke-warm and have a cheap version of Jesus.....

The level of intensity has nothing to do with being conservative or liberal or belonging to one denomination or another. I'm a Liberal United Methodist with a strong Catholic bent, but I am as on fire for Jesus as anyone I've ever met....

Hi H2Whoa,

Here's the thing, and I think you might possibly agree with me: We all should be zealots for Christ. What is exhausting are people who are zealots for sub-issues in Christianity- people who are zealots for KJV-only, or their view of End Times, or Calvinism, or anti-[insert destested Christian group.] Everyone is entitled to their opinions but some folks seem obsessed with certain subjects and will not let them go. Such enthusiasts are drawn to discussion boards, as I myself am. Without the zealots discussion boards would be pretty dull, I think. I remember moderating a board for my former church and the pastor told me- Don't let them debate! No controversy! Well, I appreciated his desire for peace and goodwill, but the board died out- too boring! You can't just quote Psalms at at each other and say, "Oh, that was SUCH a blessing!"
