• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I normally wouldn't make a post but I need to vent. My mother passed away last December 26th at the age of 62 from pancreatic cancer. We didn't know about it until a week before her death. We knew something was wrong with her but she didn't like doctors and refused to seek any treatment. She finally went to the hospital when she couldn't get out of bed.

So, my mom passed away and then about a month and a half afterwards my dad announces that he is having a woman move in with him. This lady was his girlfriend from high school before he met my mom. She isn't even divorced from her current husband. Needless to say my mom's family was extremely ticked off and I was caught in the middle. They were saying things like my dad let my mom die on purpose so he could be with this lady. I know that this other lady came into the picture after my mom died. She saw her obituary in the paper and left a condolence on the funeral home website which my dad responded to.

So, since this time my mom's side of the family has stopped for the most part communicating with me (there is just silence). My dad is all caught up with this new woman and is now getting involved with her family. I feel abandoned by everyone. No one ever calls to ask how I am doing with the death of my mom. My dad doesn't even talk about her anymore and I haven't even heard from him for two weeks.

It is hard enough having to deal with the passing of my mom so unexpectantly and then to feel abandoned by my dad and my mom's side of the family is horrible. I am an only child and the only one who seems to care is my wife. I am getting depressed and just was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on my situation. Blessings!

I am so sorry for your loss.
It must be very hard to not only lose your mother but feel unnoticed by the rest of your family.
Can you talk to your father and let him know how you are feeling? Some kind of grief counseling may be a good idea as well.
Praying for you

Wow...that is a tough one; I am so sorry for your loss!
My Mom died suddenly in November, so I can relate to the shock!
As Criada suggested, communication is the best way to work through this...on both sides.
Grief counseling will help too, seeing you have minimal family support.
Thankfully your wife is by your side!
I pray that your faith sustains you as your work through this difficult time, and for your reconciliation with loved ones. :crossrc:
