Sorry, had to bump this thread up. Right now, in this informal survey, we are running a miscarriage rate of OVER 50%. I have a strong suspicion that the rate IS far over the 10% commonly given. If you've not taken this poll, please do. I'm really interested in the results.

I had a miscarriage last year, in the spring. I was 8 weeks along, and had never had any problems with carrying a baby before, so it totally came out of the blue. That baby would have been our 10th child (our 3rd died from surgical complications trying to fix a birth defect). Unfortunately for me, I had the miscarriage 3 days before the anniversary of our 3rd child's death. I was a Mess for months.

I miscarried a year and 2 months ago, still not pregnant again yet. I was 12 weeks along, went to the bathroom and started bleeding uncontrolably. My husband took me to the hospital, they said i was misscarrying and that it would happen naturally and sent me home. I passed out a couple hours later and then later that week the bleeding slowed down, so i thought ok, i can deal with the emotional part of this now, but nope..2 days later started really heavy again, went back to the ER and had to have emergancy D&C and blood transfusion. the dr. said i was on my way to death. he said the blood level should be at a 12, whatever that means, and mine was at a 5 or 6.

Anyways, it was quite the ordeal, and i would like to think that i've moved on emotionally, but i dont know. i've dealt with alot, but a lot of the time, i try not to think about it. i would have to say the hardest thing for me is seeing everyone around me getting pregnant, and i mean everyone, i swear there is something in the water amongst my friends and family that i'm missing out on or something...anyways...i guess thats all, just still waiting for our own family to begin.

so yes you might possibly beable to carry to term after a misscarriage.

you can definatly carry to term after a miscarriage. One of my teachers had 4 miscarriages before she finally had her baby girl, and then not too long after she had a boy. My mom had a miscarriage after me and had 2 children 5 and 10 years later...and my cousin had a miscarriage before she had her daughter.

I have not had one.

I have had one miscarriage, it was in May of 2004. We were kind of separated at the time. I found out I was pregnate (actually I knew it a few weeks before I got a + on the test...) I was unsure how Ken would react. He desided to come back home...before he moved back in, I had my first dr's appoinment... I was suppose to have been 12 weeks... when the dr could not find a heartbeat, she had the US tech do a US... I knew something was wrong almost imediately, there was no movement on the screen, all the tech would tell me was the baby wasn't the size it should be...the dr would talk to me in a few minuets... well the wait to talk to the dr seemed to take forever, finally she took me in her office, and gave me the bad news, the baby had died arround 9 weeks... no telling what the problem was. she told me I could either let it happen naturally, or go in for a D&C... I told her I needed to talk to my husband. I drove to my friend's house that was watching Robert, how I got there I don't remember I was just numb... I got there tried to be composed, and asked to use her phone... I called Ken, who was helping at a golf turnament... I told him... he was on his way there... then I told my friend... I was just devistated. I had the D&C done, another proof that anistetic and I don't get along well I was out like 30 minuets longer than I should have been... I am crying right now reliving that...
Well I haven't had any problems getting pregnate again. I got pregnate after being off my BCP's for a month and a half. not planned, didn't have the money to get the script filled. my first few visits I was really anxious, esspecially the first one, I should have been close to 12 weeks going by my last period... which was in the beginning of june. it turns out that I didn't ovulate in june, but did in july :)
the dr did a US on me after not hearing a heartbeat.... I held my breath till I saw that precious heartbeat. so r all is well... they have been keeping a good eye on me esspecially the first several weeks, because of the miscarriage, and the fact that my son was born 2 months early... looks like this one might go to term... also looks like he might be close to 8 lbs when he gets here...

My second pregnancy was a miscarriage at ten weeks. Never found out the reason why, but at my 8-week ultrasound my doctor noticed some bleeding around the baby so wanted me to come back two weeks later. She couldn't find a heart beat, so I opted for a d&c. What my doctor didn't tell was how fertile you are after a d&c so I got pregnant again two weeks later and nine months later, our daughter was born. I never had any more problems and after that and just gave birth to twins in October of this year.

My first pregnancy m/c at 9 weeks. I was having some spotting, and went in to the dr and he did an ultrasound. There was nothing there. He then sent me to the hospital to have a D&C done. I conceived quite easily on my next. I went on to have a little girl. And a little boy this past August.

how far along were you?

I was around 11 weeks. It was my first pregnancy.

How many have you had?

Just the one.

How did the miscarriage happen?

I had spotting which turned into mild cramping.

How did you know it happened?

The doctor sent me for an ultrasound, where they diagnosed a blighted ovum - this is where the sac develops but not the baby. It shows up as an empty sac on the ultrasound. The miscarriage begins when insufficient hormones are produced to continue the pregnancy.

What did you have to do after the miscarriage? What procedures did the doctor have to do?

I had an ERPC (aka D&C) - they don't do this nowadays in the UK for straightforward miscarriages, preferring to let nature take its course. I went to the hospital for the ultrasound, and they kept me in - said that it was better just to get it over and done with. I had the surgery around midnight and was discharged after doctors' rounds mid morning. I had bleeding for a few days, which turned bright red on exertion.

Did you have trouble conceiving again?

No, we were advised to wait at least a month, and were pregnant within three months (travelling schedules more than fertility).

Have you had a successful pregnancy since?

Have had five uneventful pregnancies since.

I haven't had a miscarriage as such - but I've had two ectopic pregnancies (when the egg attaches inside the fallopian tube instead of the uterus).

They were both incredibly painful, physically and emotionally. The first was at 5 and a half weeks and the second was at about 7 weeks.

The doctors gave me an 8% chance of ever coneiving naturally - and here I am now, almost 19 weeks pregnant with a new bub.. I will be content when this one is breathing and in my arms

Yes, I have had 1 miscarriage. I had my first child at the age of 28, and tried getting pregnant about 2 1/2 years later. I did get pregnant and had a miscarriage around 12 weeks into the pregnancy. My experience was pretty bad. I had been bleeding off and on for about 2 days and finally one night it happened. Actually it felt somewhat like giving birth, I cramped really bad until I had the miscarriage. It was a bad experience, but I didn't let it change my mind in trying for another. 4 months later I was pregnant again and delivered a healthy full-term 7 lb 7 oz baby girl!
