my advice would be to get baptised when you feel ready. but being baptised is really important so dont put it off forever :D

Praise God that you have come to Christ!

I felt the same way- I fought getting baptized for a while after I got serious about my relationship with Christ. I don't remember my reasons, but I had a lot. I finally did it and it was a relief. When you are baptised you go in the water and come out clean. You die to your old self (sinful life) and are made new in Christ- it's an incredible feeling! In the NT, people were baptized immediately after they were saved. So, being baptized is a public display of our coming to Christ. When we are baptized we are showing the world our decision.

As a new christian please be careful with "gut feelings". Satan will always encourage us to keep putting things off, especially if it has to do with growing in our relationship with Christ. As your walk the Christ progesses you will be better able to discern who is giving you those "gut feelings".

Peace and Blessings to you-

Welcome to the family, Jesus_Help_Me!

Your question takes me back. I had been an on-again, off-again Christian for most of my life, and when I FINALLY got serious about God, and wanting to live for him, I went through the same thoughts about baptism. I wanted to put it off until I was good enough, or until I had learned enough, or read my Bible enough. They all sounded like really good reasons. But the truth is, there's really no reason to put it off.

We'll never be good enough. We'll never know enough or do enough or clean enough. But our God is an awesome God, and he is willing to meet us just where we are! He looked right at me and said "Don't worry, come to me and be cleansed". And all I could say back was, "You're right, here I come." :)

If you're worried, I understand. But baptism gives you such an amazing feeling of newness, and it is such an amazing testament of your new relationship with Jesus as your saviour. We're all pulling for you, and I'm praying for you in your new walk. Congratulations!

Congratulations, well your grandma is right, and also not completely right(make sense? lol). Baptism is necessary, however; not absolutely necessary(make sense? lol).

Indeed, I firmly believe you should wait(no preset determined amount of time, but until you are totally ready). For Jesus says:

Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Key phrase here is "make disciples". How does one make a disciple? You have received the message, and you have received His grace, now learn how/why :) Realize and learn about all that happens during baptism, what it does, as well as what it symbolizes. The more you learn about it, the more of an effect it will have on you(the effect on your soul will remain the same regardless).

Nate

Welcome to the family!

Most churches offer pre-baptisim classes for those wishing to be baptized. These are a great opportunity to learn more about the faith and ask lots of questions. You are, of course, not required to get baptized at the end of the class. I think you would find such a course very helpful!
