I have an opportunity to move into one of the oldest houses in the city I live in. It's a great opportunity and it will be used to host christian college groups weekly. It's a huge house and low rent, it even has a swimming pool. Everything sounds great and I'm ready to move in.

But, I have recently been hearing bad things about the owner of the house and the way he treats people. He owns a day spa, and I know a few people that have worked for him and chose to leave because of the way he treats others. I have also heard that he totally screwed over a business partner he had in the past. This concerns me the least, since I won't actually be on a lease.

The first thing I was told about the house concerns me the most; two people were hung in the front yard in the late 1800s or early 1900s (the Ruggles Brothers, I believe). And as of tonight, I heard that the house in haunted in a major way. Not just poltergeist stuff, but evil stuff. I don't know the details, but apparently people don't stick around in the house for very long.

The first time I visited the house, I cut my finger deeply on a piece of metal in one of the closets and immediately figured it was a bad sign... an omen if you will. I just have an uneasy feeling about this house, but the college pastor really wants me to move in with his brother-in-law (a friend of mine) and start this ministry.

Even if there is no "evil" in the house... I'm kind of spooked now and don't know if I could sleep in the house regardless. To me, it seems kind of like camping in a cemetery. Ugh.

What do you guys think of my situation?

I don't know. I mean, I believe in evil spirits and stuff, but make sure that you don't mistake things that are completely accidental/physical for omens, or something spiritual. I speak for myself here too-for far too long, I've been too quick to spiritualize things when really, they should have been dealt with in a rational, logical, non-spiritual way.

"Feeling uneasy" there is not a reason to avoid the place, IMHO. However, if you stay there a while and do see weird activitiy, that's a different story.

people in the college age group at my church often live in houses like you're talking about for ministry. The first of these houses that I lived in definately had some satanic activity going on. strange things woukld happen and noone would say anything until we were scared enough to. we probably should have handled it right away before thigns got out of hand. One of the things that we ALL experienced was that the back door would unlock, open close, then lock again. Noone there. you could hear it all happen through the whole house. Also there were satanic symbols painted on the basement walls. They had been there for a while evidently and had been painted over. But they bled through the paint and were visible again. We prayed in the basement a few times and weird stuff just kept happening so we left. That was more than 2 years ago and they haven't been able to lease the house.
Others in our church have had similar experiences and have prayed and then everything was fine. I have NO clue what was up with our house or what had happened there before.
This ministry is a WONDERFUL idea! it really is, in our church hundreds have come to Christ this way. I don't know if this is the wrong house or what. It may even be that these things are happening to squelch your ministry. I would talk to you pastor some more. Sorry I wasn't more help.

I think it's a bit presumptuos to say that there is no such thing as a ghost. I don't really know the origins of "ghosts", but I do believe that they exist. I've seen photographs and videos in which the unexplainable happens. I don't know if they are the dead, trapped between worlds, or evil spirits.

Either way, God has the power over everything. Resist the devil and he must flee! Don't let Satan keep you from your ministry. Pray about it. Have the home blessed. Ask your pastor, and other pastors in your community to go in and cast out the spirits.

I'll say a prayer for you. :prayer:

There isn't such a thing known as ghost as other people think because when a person die, their spirit will be cut away from their body and that's how it goes with a dead person. However, there is such a thing known as evil spirits conquering a place making people to think that it's haunted.

You have to ask your Pastor to go over to the house to bless the house as suggested by rogsr. With God's intervention at any place, the place will be a holy ground. Do not be worried too much and God will be there to clean the place for you!

I agree with those who have suggested having your pastor come to the house and bless it/pray over it. You should pray over it too - walk through the rooms and yard and pray as you go. That's a good thing to do in any house - "haunted" or not :) And remember that God is more powerful than anything else. Trust in Him and let Him ease your mind and calm your fears :)

I feel for you,I grew up in a home with spooks. We know live in a home where this (thing) turns the lights on and off). We go around praying in ever room, and read God's Word outloud. Try moving in,give it a try and read His Word outloud. I have been at the end of my rope once with this whole thing when someone in our church gave us this book called PRAYERS THAT AVAIL MUCH, I went around each room in our house and prayed these scriptures. It worked, never had a problem in a longtime. Remember also that this spirit will know that your a Christian by how you live in your house. Try also having your Pastor over to pray, like the other posts said prayer, have him pray in your home to rid these spirits to their resting places. When I was little, my sister had our Pastor come over and pray and those sprits vanished. I will pray for you also,as He hears every prayer.

I didn't read all the posts cause I am lazy...but I wanted to give you my opnion anyways. First of all...the Bible teaches that the only ghost is the holy ghost. However...there is evil in this world....and demons. I know from growing up with parents in Wicca and Satanism that these demons can attach themselves to your house if they are allowed. This sounds very scary...and it is if you are not saved. I grew up seeing bad stuff...dead people on the floor around my bed...demons in my bedroom. I used to hear stuff...even smell stuff. I know also from experience that if you bless and house...and pray for angels around the outside of your house...those demons will leave. They have to. I have a friend up in Kansas that prays for angels to stand at each outside corner of his house...every single night. And when I wasn't a christian...I could feel something there in his house. A good something. It was so awesome. Spritual warfair is nothing to be scared about unless you are on wrong side.

I just want to throw my two cents in:
I do definitly believe in deamons and evil spirits inhabiting a house. You know what I would do? I would get my pastor, and some other people from my church, and have a prayer meeting in the house. Just start asking God to cast out whatever evil demons and spirits, and just start worshiping God and calling on the name of Jesus.
A.) If their are demons in the house, this WILL get them out.
B.) If it's just your immagination, this will comfort you A LOT!
Hope this helps!

Yes, pray about the house with everybody who is in on this ministry deal, pastor included. Pray that if this is the house for you, that God would remove the spirits. Don't forget praying about the man you'll be paying rent to as well, that's an important consideration.

I don't think it has to take place at the house. But do pray for this, and if God tells you to move in, move in. The reason I say this is because I have heard that demons need to be expelled before you can do any effective ministry of any sort. They can distract you, tempt people, and any number of things. But if God leads you to that house, pray and they will scatter.

There absolutely are ghosts...but they are not the passed spirits of persons but they are called demons. They can appear to us as people because they can take on various forms to deceive. Evil spirits are within this realm and world. They are very real!!! I have friends who have had very real experiences with demons...it's actually very frightening but the Holy Spirit is there to protect you!! When they (my friends) had their experiences, they spoke aloud that they belonged to Jesus Christ and the evil spirits left them alone. Evil spirits will pester people...esp. Christians. However don't let this frighten you!! I believe that the power of the Holy SPirit will not only protect you but can rid your home of the spirits. Make it known that this house is a dwelling place for the ministry of Jesus Christ. Do not let these beings frighten you because you belong to Jesus Christ. Remember, it's not just your home that evil spirits dwell...it's everywhere.
This sounds very frightening but don't be...your Lord and Savior is so much more powerful than they.
