  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A loving God sounds better, doesn't it?

When people got sick of following all the old laws, they had to rewrite them. There had to be an excuse why suddenly they no longer had to follow them, which was because God loves us.

How does a God who hates ( Deut 9:28 ) turn into a God of such love.
( John 13:34) ?

"Turn into?"
It is the same God.

There are also better verses to choose from that reflect God's hate of wickedness than one that references what a country of idolaters, not God, says:

Deut 9:28
Otherwise, the country from which you brought us will say...

Not that simple, ChristianCenturion, I'm afraid :(

Let's look at the greater context:

Deuteronomy 9
25 I lay prostrate before the LORD those forty days and forty nights because the LORD had said he would destroy you. 26 I prayed to the LORD and said, "O Sovereign LORD, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness of this people, their wickedness and their sin. 28 Otherwise, the country from which you brought us will say, 'Because the LORD was not able to take them into the land he had promised them, and because he hated them, he brought them out to put them to death in the desert.' 29 But they are your people, your inheritance that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm."

See, v. 9:28 are not the words of God, neither are they the words of idolators, but the words of Moses, when telling God, what other peoples will say about him, if he destroys his chosen people.

Ok, God is not described as a god of hate here, but certainly a god of zealousness, who is prepared to let his chosen people die in the desert, if they do not obey him - but he can be calmed down with a lot of patience and talking to his selfesteem. Notice that Moses claims that other peoples would say that God had been unable to take his people into the promised land! Wouldn't that be too much of a shame for God?

As for the OP, read the Book of Job.
