  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

As I'm married to a pastor, I keep close tabs on these bills.

The very fact that they keep popping up disgusts me (even aside from the worry about free speech, I believe that ALL crime is hate crime) but I do have faith that while the government may be corrupt to the core, there's still honest enough people that won't allow these types of bills to pass.

I can say, though, that should a bill like this pass, my husband will STILL preach the truth from the pulpit. :preach:

it's so strange.

we probably won't prosecute someone who says "God (expletive) America" in his Churches, or we probably won't prosecute an Imam who preaches hate against Jews in a mosque (I don't know if this is true, I'm warning everyone that this is speculation only), but we will prosecute a preacher who may be admonishing against homosexuality in good faith.

People on the Left are "promising" that this isn't any restriction of
freedom of speech --
what they don't tell you is that this is the stepping stone to
persecution.
This is how it STARTS.

As with abortion, partial birth comes later as they find increasing
need to push the envelope further....
As far as I'm concerned w/ the hate rhetoric by the media &
entertainment, they also need to put CHRISTIANS
on any Hate Crimes Bills -
While they're at it, stick on "rednecks" that they keep being attacking
as poor, stupid, toothless folk w/ the tea parties.

Obama also marginalizes all of his critics every time he makes yet
another speech to hog up TV airtime. The narcicism is beyond
belief.
He can't take dissent; you praise him or feel his wrath.

This bill is a stepping stone to loss of freedoms.

The verbiage of this legislation really concerns me..."attempts to cause bodily injury to any person, because of the actual or perceived..."

I mean...a lot of the verbiage is highly susceptable to very vague interpretation.
Can I ask how many gays are being brutally, physically attacked
to even push this bill right now?

I hear of none on the news. What sparked this?

I don't know if anyone's said this earlier becuz I haven't
read thru the thread, but we ALREADY HAVE laws against
abuse, violence, graffiti/vandalism, stalking and hate crimes...
why is this made into some special group case as if they're hallowed above
anyone else?

This is exactly why I will not vote Liberal - the democratic party is
LONG GONE kids, this is now the liberal party and it's very opposite
what it claims to support and I find it in direct opposition to true
freedom and what God's Word teaches

You'd have to ask Texas Lynn how many gays are being brutally attacked and murdered trying to pass this bill. She seems to really "know" that type of stuff, since it's in all of her posts to any conservative who dares to disagree with her.

Passing a bill such as this would be a wake-up call to Christians in America. They'd finally know what real persecution is. Being arrested for your beliefs is persecution. But from reading some posts on this forum, if you just disagree with a Christian, that Christians is being persecuted for their beliefs.

If you want to know what real persecution is, ask those from the former Iron Curtain.

We have a few Russians and other Slavs in our church that came from the Iron Curtain. What the Soviets did to the Christians makes Hitler's Holocaust pale in comparison.

I know what real persecution is and so far it doesn't exist in America. That was my point. Christians around the world know what real persecution is, but I've seen Christians on this board say "I'm being persecuted for my beliefs" simply because someone disagrees with them or proves their position to be false. It's like some Christians hide in here all day long and think THIS is where the battle takes place. It isn't and passing this bill would give those Christians a much needed wake up call.

Homosexuals are protected against bodily harm under the same laws as everyone else. There's definitely an agenda here. Actual homosexuals want to be treated like everybody else and go along with their lives and blend in and don't raise too much of a fuss. All this legislation crap and needing of new laws and hate crime laws is being pushed by the defenders of the homosexuals. They're the ones who tend to be mean, angry, and dictatorial.

Yep. As we saw in the last miss USA contest. Christians are being targeted by bigot homosexual advocates and causing trouble.

The only way Miss California was targeted is if Perez Hilton knew beforehand that she was a Christian. But she has the same view as the President and no one is targeting him. Hmmm.... ^_^

She was well known for beliefs. I'm not familiar with the presidents stance but her stance is similar to mine. I think homosexuality is wrong and I will always vote against it when it comes to the polls. But we live in a democracy and we should let the people choose. Thankfully they have choosen consistantly (most of the time) with the traditional definition of marrige.

YouTube - Miss California's Miss Usa 2009 Speech! OUCH!

I think the very fact that people even care what Perez Hilton has to say on politics and/or beliefs is a sad statement of where our society is these days.

Of course, with all his blustering and name-calling, there could be a perceived threat there under this new law so maybe Miss CA could have a case against him

Woah wait, I thought the new law only protect gays?

BTW, the reason why it matters at least why I care to some degree Is not because I like beauty contest but because it demonstrates the gay side determination to come after us while claiming to be victum all along. Infact the only reason why I found out about this is because I was watching CNN in school and I saw the news and I saw them show the video of Perez calling miss CA stupid. I wanna see what would happen if the opposite happened. The libs in berkely would be jumping up and down and protesting.

I'd have to go back and reread but I think it mentions the LGBT community but the law is not limited to them.

I should clarify that I didn't mean that comment to be about people here caring about Perez Hilton, it was a general "how in the heck did this guy jump from basically obscurity to being on CNN?"

Persecution exists even in America, just not on the same scale nor the same way as in the Soviet Union.

In the Soviet Union, everybody was persecuted. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, and even the Animistic nomads that have wandered the Steppe for millenniums.

In the Soviet Union persecution was open, encouraged and rewarded. People arrested, jailed, tortured and killed in more ways than any of us care to imagine. Churches closed. Monasteries destroyed. Monks beaten. Nuns raped. And so on and so forth.
The point, is that anybody who was not a party-liner was persecuted especially if that person was a Christian.

In America it is different. If one is a non-WASP one is persecuted. Black men are suspected when they enter a restaurant as possibly getting unruly. Teenagers are suspected anywhere and for anything. Non Protestants are persecuted by Protestants. It was last year when we were celebrating Pentecost at church when a group of four or five Bible-thumping Protestants came to our church to attempt to proselytize. They did not succeed. Roman Catholics are persecuted as well as Mormons, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and Rastafari.

Persecution has always existed in America. Always. The WASPs just haven't realized it. The only differences have been the target and the setting. Now, it looks as if the setting shall be all encompassing, the target heterosexuals and the attackers homosexuals.

"Change we can believe in". You'd better believe it. It will come barging down your front door.
