The debate over whether to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays seems to have moved to a new level that makes me as if even the word Christmas itself is a taboo word.
I've even heard it said right after Thanksgiving, "Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to start thinking about the holidays!" What, isn't Thanksgiving a holiday?
I've even heard hosts on Christian radio programs say to their guests "happy holidays".
The next time someone says they hope you have a nice holiday, you may just want to ask them which one they're referring to.
New Year---Happy New Year!
Valentine's Day---Happy Valentines Day!
Easter---Happy Easter!
Independence Day---Happy 4th!
Thanksgiving---Happy Thanksgiving!
Christmas---Happy holidays.
Christmas is getting the Washington Redskins treatment. Unnamed, it's now "The Washington team", while Christmas is simply "The holiday".
