The debate over whether to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays seems to have moved to a new level that makes me as if even the word Christmas itself is a taboo word.
I've even heard it said right after Thanksgiving, "Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to start thinking about the holidays!" What, isn't Thanksgiving a holiday?

I've even heard hosts on Christian radio programs say to their guests "happy holidays".

The next time someone says they hope you have a nice holiday, you may just want to ask them which one they're referring to.

New Year---Happy New Year!
Valentine's Day---Happy Valentines Day!
Easter---Happy Easter!
Independence Day---Happy 4th!
Thanksgiving---Happy Thanksgiving!
Christmas---Happy holidays.

Christmas is getting the Washington Redskins treatment. Unnamed, it's now "The Washington team", while Christmas is simply "The holiday".

The problem is celebrating Christmas on December 25 - only one month after Thanksgiving and one week before the new year begins, not to mention Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are celebrated a few weeks earlier. If Christians celebrated the birth of Jesus on his actual birthday (which has still not been determined), there would be no reason to say, "Happy holidays!" instead of "Merry Christmas!" Americans do not celebrate a historical event in September; they just have an extra day off work.

Question: Why does everybody say "Merry" Christmas? We say "Happy" New Year, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Only one of the holidays we celebrate is preceded by "Merry" instead.

Correction: The Redskins are officially called the "Washington Football Team" on the field and in all media.

Either way, their name is omitted, which brings attention to the fact each time it's done.

Now that Christmas is over (the "happy holidays" holiday), people are now back to recognizing names of holidays again and are now saying, "Happy New Year!".

I haven't seen one single place, in America, where the phrase "Merry Christmas" wasn't welcomed. Who cares if some businesses put up signs saying Happy Holidays because they still have their Christmas displays for all to see.

People need to lighten up.

Greeting others with "Merry Christmas" is now witnessing.
Now it isn’t. It’s just wishing a Merry Christmas. Christmas has been a secular holiday for a very long time. We Christians get to celebrate it as freely as we want. But Santa is a big elf and Jesus probably wasn’t born in December.

They are now the Washington Commanders. And they have the worst owner and management in the NFL. Although the Cleveland Browns are closing fast.

With that new name (and caving in to being forced to change their name in the first place), ownership of the team wasn't in high demand.

Daniel Snyder has owned the team since 1999.
