 Greetings every one,
May I ask for your views regarding the church/state issue. Just a few questions to stimulate the grey matter.
Is this state of relationship viable in a multi faiath society?
If we are a "CHISTIAN" nation then why is one
church dominate in this day of many christian churches?
Should this be the time of seperation or a closer relationship?

HI

I think the christians in the u.k should get closer no matter what denomination you are.It is often said that we christians are divided because of the different denominations, but i see it as choice your calling and so on, but as only 5 percent go to church in all the u.k we may be ready for major changes in this day and age.
The last 150 years or so seem to have set up a lot of different orders with different orders, may be we all need to go back to the start,i just don't know.

Some in my lin eof work would say that the church is seperate from the state, indeed our era has been described as post Christian. My boss (General Secretary of Baptist Union) talks a lot about the church in exile, kinda like Judah in Babylon. This is a great place for us to be, a place where we can pull together and start again. To get our house in order and come back to teh country but seperate from it. The church has no place within the state, thaen it is shackled. We need new vision for a new united church in a multi faith society. Me thinks. Hmmm

I think the Church should play a more central role than it currently does... except that in today's multi-cultural/multi-faith (increasingly these are interchangeable terms) such a situation is impossible or even destructive... except that the 'multi' faiths and cultures which flock to our shores did and do so fully in the knowledge that our country is a 'Christian' one, and nevertheless arrived in their droves, to take advantage of the opportunities this 'Christian' country offered. Thus I do feel some pique, which I would argue isn't racism or xenophobism, when I hear the argument for a more inclusive society. All too often this argument is for a removal of Christianity by atheists/agnostics/ the irreligious, while hiding behind the 'freedom of expression, freedom of religion' banner.

Sorry, rant over ;) Merry Christmas!
