Has Noah's Ark really been discovered?

Well, I don't know much about creationist geology, but by a real geologist's perspective it doesn't make any sense. The likelihood of an eruption large enough to break the boat apart and disperse it as shown, but not in fact completely destroy it, makes no sense to me. Ararat is a stratovolcano, and if it was still active historically (well, actually it probably is) you wouldn't have any evidence left of your boat. Even if there was no lava, there would almost certainly be mulititudes of ash, pyroclastic flows, lahars... In short, the ark, if it is there is some visible form, would have had to have been deposited after Ararat's last eruption, because otherwise it would most certainly be buried under tens or hundreds of feet of basalt and rhyolite and tuff.

Yes, it's a bit like "the face on Mars" - tricks of light and our tendency to see meaningfull patterns all over the place.

It's interesting, but a bit confusing, I'm afraid. The ark is supposed to have been split into pieces by the 1842 eruption of Mt. Ararat, but the Kurdish mounteneer Parasut's mother's uncle is supposed to have been inside the ark, while it was still intact! Not impossible, but ....

Also we are told of Ron Eyatt's findings of stone anchors. Would the ark have had anchors? Where was it supposed to have moored?

I'm afraid it all sounds to me as a collection of stories that don't really fit together, but are supposed to impress by their number

Hello:

Although I personally question the finds and research of Ron Wyatt, my understanding of the anchors is different than a modern anchor. These anchors were suspended from ropes into the water and were not to grab the "bottom" to hold the ark to the bottom of the sea, rather they were to help stabilize the ark from the pitching, yawing and rolling motion of a stormy sea. Much like a ship might use a "sea anchor" or "drogue" to keep it pointed into the wind in a storm.

You are certainly welcome. The explanation is likely true, but cannot be entirely proven. There are places in modern Turkey that have peculiarly shaped stones that were later carved with crosses in them. Models of the ark have been made and tested in special facilities to test boat designs. These tests seemed to show (which was the point) that this design was stable with the "anchors" and would likely survive stormy seas.
