• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So, I'm on my 15th depression medication, as prescribed by my psychiatrist. And, so far, many of them have had the same effect: making me tired and emotionless. Although they have quelled my anxiety--and my sad thoughts to some extent--it just seems like they're turning me into a zombie.

What I'm asking is, has medication ever helped you truly enjoy life again? And, if so, how many medications did you have to try to reach that point?

(Note: I've already made lifestyle changes like a regular sleep schedule, healthy diet, exercise, keeping myself busy, talking to other people, praying about my depression, etc. That hasn't helped my zombie-like state. Two and a half years after falling into depression, nothing seems to be getting rid of it entirely.)

I have had the same problem as you - medication made me zombie like and often even more depressed. In the end I found that only a little bit of medication worked the best, just enough to cover my symptoms but not too much to make me zombie like. Talk it over with your doctor and see what (s)he thinks about putting you on less medications instead of more.

Also it takes some time for our bodies to get used to the medications the ones I'm on now took me more than a year to get used to, before that time I was very sleepy from taking them but now my body seemed to be used to it and I'm feeling a lot better from them.

Don't give up yet.

My meds my me so tired that all I want to do is sleep all day. :( But that could be the depression too. So who knows? Right now I don't have insurance so I have to wait until the first but I already made an appointment with a doctor for the 9th.

I do feel like my meds needs to be changed a bit.

I'm praying for you. :prayer:

My medication has helped me a lot. Thanks to my meds it's been a lot easier for me to deal with my depression and anxiety. I'm still on the first ever med I was ever put on due to depression, but it took a while to find the right dosage that worked for me. For a while I also had to eat a higher dosage than the recommended one, but I'm quite immune to side effects and that kind of stuff.

I hope you'll find the right medication that will help you! :)

I am currently on Vyvanse and Ablify, they both counter act each other. I've been on them for a month or 2. Vyvanse helps with my anxiety, Abilify depression and ADD. I think Abilify is a pill that helps wake me up and Vyvanse makes me sleepy. These two work perfectly together. I have not had a panic attack since about a month ago.

I take 3 vyvanse and 1 ablify. I see my doctor tomorrow to talk to her about upping them again

I used meds for a couple or years because my depression was dangerously intense. I had only slight numbing, and quite honestly, for a time, needed that because the depression was again dangerously deep. I didn't have anyoher side effects from the Lexapro. I think this was partly due to using them in conjunction with nutrition and exercise. I system is pretty clean so the meds didn't really have anything to bump into and cause side issues.

If you can, and perhap you already are, stay away from refined sugars and white flour, caffeine, preservatives, trans-fats and that sort of thing, and add lots of fresh veggies and fruits, fish oil, and eat things like omega-3 eggs, turkey and wild caught fish, it might really help. Also, it's important to get full spectrum light into your eyes. So full spectrum light bulbs are a help.

It might sound like a lot, but it really helps and you can implement these things gradually.

Prayers,
a
