Has anyone experienced this?

My Pastor always makes lame remarks about me being single and comments about me finally meeting a girl. I'm not sure if I actually do roll my eyes when he makes the comments, but I know I do it in my heart.

I do give him the look though.

I think it irritates me that people make the assumption that the Christian life is all about getting married, having beautiful children and smiling all the time. It urks me so much I just want to paint their white picket fences with roofing tar.

Maybe it is the Lord's will for me to be single. I'm not crushed with depression at the thought of being alone, I have control over my bodily urges and desires, and though I sometimes I flatter myself with the thought of having a family, it wouldn't ruin my life if it never happened.

Something you (Apeleutheros) said in your first above post reminded me of an incident that happened last year. I had heard that our preacher actually called out single guys' names during sermons, I guess to point out that they need to go looking for girls. I didn't really believe this until I saw it happen. It wasn't to a group of guys either, just to one poor soul. The congregation I was a member of at the time was not tiny, about 300 people went.

People need to mind their own dang business if ya ask me.

I'm gonna start feeling sorry for people who don't have at least 3 dogs in their house. I mean, I have 3 dogs in my house and love it....They surely must not be living as fulfilled a life as I am.

Anyway, to answer the OP, no, that has never happened to me, however it still really annoys me because I know that it does happen to others, hence my above comments. But then again, I was in a relationship shortly after I turned 18 which lasted a year, and then got into a second one about 6 months later at 19 that I'm currently still in and its stable. So I haven't really given anybody the chance :sorry:

That's just wrong. :o The church I used to attend didn't really make a huge deal about people being single. Though I did notice there was always some kind of tension between the single and the married people.

I live in a part of the country where people marry REALLY early in life. I can think of at least three people I went to school with that are now married and have at least one child. So, I am rather an oddity in my neck of the woods. No one has ever said it, but I'm pretty sure people think there's something wrong with me. lol

Yes I live in a part of the country like that as well. While I was attending college I met several girls who were only there to find their future husbands. :hhh: A lot of women my age already have at least 2 children. And are either engaged to be married or getting married.

With your married friends or friends who are in long term relationships, have you gotten the vibe that they seem to feel sorry for you because you're single? Even if there are other things that are going rather well in your life, like you have a stable career, you're getting along with your family and friends and all that, but that doesn't seem to matter because you don't have a spouse?

Yes. But, I'm not confused as to why my family and friends are this way with me. I think they see the desire within me (have heard me talk about my goals and being married and children have pretty much always been a part of those lifelong goals) and they see how I am, so it's almost like.. it seems unnatural for me not to be married by now. Even though I have my own timeline, I do get where they're coming from so I don't try to take comments and things the wrong way. They essentially see the same potential in me that I see for myself.
