Harvest Fire
James 5:7 Be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
How can we wait patiently for the coming of the Lord? James 5:7 gives us a clue. How does the farmer wait for the precious fruit of the earth? How does he bear the toil and delays? He looks past all the work and delay to the harvest. The fruit is described as precious. The preciousness of the fruit harvested will more than compensate for all the past. This harvest of the precious fruit provides the hope we need to wait patiently, wait patiently for the Lord.
What part do the autumn and spring rains play? They are a necessary preliminary to the harvest. The early rain fell at sowing time, about November or December; the latter rain, about March or April, to mature the grain for harvest. The latter rain that shall precede the coming spiritual harvest, will probably be another Pentecost-like effusion of the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 126:5-6 Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.
Galatians 6:7-10 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Lord help each of us look forward to Your coming. Thank You for the promise of Your joy at harvest time. Prepare each of our hearts as we wait, give each of us Your firey passion for the harvest. In the name of Jesus Christ.
