I would have to say the samething, because we do live in a world that does influence in books fantasy and the worlds we wish we live in for our own benifits, but some people do have something in there minds that triggers that leads them to create a world of pleasure and as humans we do things that promotes pleasure.

All I have to say about the Harry Potter books is this: My younger sister hated reading...hated it. But as soon as she started reading the Harry Potters, she was hooked. She loves to read now and she reads lots of other books. Even my mother credits her vastly improved reading grades to Harry Potter books. So I think if Ms. Rowling has written a book that will encourage kids to like reading, I'm all for it.

It's not even that I have a problem with it. It's just that I am so absorbed in school work, writing out new topics for threads on 5 different forums, feels like 50, and keeping up on my daily routines that don't really have time to read something I'm not all that intrested in. Thanks for the offer anyways.
My very favorite HP fan fiction site is www.FictionAlley.org ...love it, love it, love it. If I had to pic a favorite fan fiction it would be the Draco Trilogy by Cassandra Claire. Phenominal writing ability and it will definitely keep you busy for awhile (3 different stories and they're LONG).

And yes, slash is same sex romance (not necessarily sex)...mostly Harry and Draco falling for each other, but occassionally something REALLY weird like Harry and Ron which just creeps me out to no end (the same way that Harry/Luna or Harry/anyone-but-Ginny creeps me out).

And may I say that I am mighty impressed that every single response was in favor of HP and none of the nonsense that usually goes on in some of these type threads. Right on.

You know, I've never heard anyone say that 'The Discworld' series of book is evil, but that's because there hasn't been a movie yet. It is a humourous fantsy series, and they have magic and many gods - it's just screaming out to be called evil if there is eventually a movie to come out. Also, the recurring main character is Death - he is the main charcter in a few books, and appears in each book, even if only for a couple of words.

The first Discworld was written in 88, I think, and there are now over 30 books in the series (from the top of my head). Terry Pratchett, the author, is from the UK, and in it, he parodies everything, from the Catholic faith to the post office (Going Postal is the most recent book, and it is one of the best I have ever read). I think he has still sold more copies than JK Rowling - each of his books are generally reprinted once or twice a year.

His books are generally at the 300+ page mark, and they have very good plots, but with writing of the highest skill. There are many levels to his storylines, and most people who read one of his books become hooked.

His books have encouraged many people to read, in fact, one librarian was quoted as saying that she liked Discworld books, because they got people to read real books. Now, if you read one of his books, you can tell that they are 'real' books, but because of the genre - fantasy AND comedy, he is not taken seriously as an author by people who have not read his books.

There's been a movie. I have it on DVD.

Small Gods is a very good book on the nature of religion.

That's by Neil Gaimen (along with Good Omens with Terry Pratchet).
