Good observation, notice one thing, all references to witchcraft and sorcery were NEGATIVE! no hero's in the bible were practicing sorcerers.

Except Jesus, Moses, and Abraham...

Why is portraying magic users as decent people wrong? They're people, they can have any number of dispositions, beliefs, behaviours, and personalities.

The stories of Robin Hood have been around for ages. A thief presented as a hero.

Also heroes who murder have been in stories since stories have been around!

If I wanted to read a book that fell perfectly in line with the bible, I'd read the bible. As long as you understand that witchcraft is an abominaton in the eyes of the lord, there really shouldn't be any reason why a Christian couldn't read and enjoy books about magic users regardless of how they are presented.

the names you listed were Prophets, Yes Jesus was also a Prophet, prophets have power, and do strange miraculous things, but they always give God credit for they're miracles, sorcerers do not! (see 1 Corinthians 12 concerning spiritual gifts) how they work and by who's power and authority they are done.

Just to point out the obvious:

Jesus = REAL

witchcraft in the Bible = real

riding brooms and levitating a club out of the hand of a troll in the Harry Potter books = FICTION

Harry Potter = FICTIONAL character in a children's book

The Bible clearly instructs about the very real dangers of witchcraft/occult/evil spirits/what have you... yet remains pretty silent on popular children's fiction.

Is there any reason why Harry Potter cannot be a prophet?
He could be, but first he would need to repent and turn from witchcraft and sorcery, and follow God. God hates witchcraft, but we also see He forgives those who were once apart of it. even the apostle Paul had a very anti-Jesus past, but once he seen who Jesus was and realized he was living in complete opposition to what God wanted, he repented and God made him a great spokesman for Jesus, and a Prophet too.....although Paul was not allowed to share many of the great things he was shown. but these things gave him strength, when he was stoned, beaten and whipped, when he was lost at sea, and shipwrecked. There is always forgiveness for those who turn from wickedness and follow what God desires, witchcraft in real or makebelieve form is always evil nomatter what.......just as a pedophiles actions whether they are real or if it is a ficticious story his actions are evil to the core, there is no good pedophiles, no matter how many boys and girls are fed and housed by these deviants, no matter how many good deeds these folks do, it doesn't lift them to a place of hero.

I also would expect Harry to repent of casting spells, stop doing such incantations, as a minimum.

Though Harry is fictional, he is depicted doing things (cast spells, recite incantations/enchantments, uses magic potions) which Scripture forbids. Real people who are involved in the occult/sorcery also recite incantations/enchantments, and use magic potions. Such is not to be encouraged, and I do not want to be entertained by what God hates.

Is it safe to assume that those so vehemently against Harry Potter watch no secular television, listen to no secular music, read no secular books/magazines? The list of things God hates will easily be found in the vast majority of modern media/publishing. Truly I'd have to assume that the anti-Harry Potter crew must indeed almost remove themselves from society. If that's the case, I wonder where all the anti (insert popular media item) threads are? Maybe I just missed them.

Been there done that, for starters. I want my heart to be more transformed by God. I want to be entertained by watching critters in the back yard, or by things people may do that are pleasing to God.

...So you want to become/are amish?

Well I am on the internet... :)

But I'm not on farm-ville, so if you want me to help you build a farm...

There's more or less wholesome, you know. Watching a story where the hero is a sorcerer's apprentice, no, not into it. Watching a story about a main character having an affair, no, not wanting to see that. Watching a story where the main character you root for is a slick criminal or is blaspheming constantly or is a gay cowboy, no, not interested.

At least in the old horror movies the witch/sorcerer/monster was defeated/killed, by someone who wasn't a witch/sorcerer/monster.

I did read the book, my point is valid.. Voldemort Killed Harry.. The wand should of transferred. There was no fight between Dumbledore and Draco when it switched the first time, so a duel shouldn't be necessary for it to be the case.

No, there isn't, because Harry didn't lose. He deliberately manipulated Voldemort into castin Avada Kedavra on him, which destroyed his own Horcrux and allowed Harry to revive.

Did you even read the book?

Um I gotta be honest, that pedophile part was way out there, o_O just a little random. Where's that comin from? It like left field o_O
On the contrary! Its very much in line with what your doing, God said he hates witchcraft and sorcery, and your in league with supporting a fictional character that practices sorcery. And I merely took a another sinful act, such as pedophilia, which every nation, country and state, finds disgusting and detestable and tried to get you to realize if someone wrote a fictional book about a pedophile who saved children from starvation and homelessness, just to sexually molest them, and make him the hero of the story, would you be willing to back up the pedophile the way you back up Harry Potter. This whole thing has been done a thousand times, Its called "conditioning" your being conditioned to support evil figures, over really evil characters, much like Robin Hood, stealing is stealing no thief is a good thief
