  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ronathan, isn't Jesus saying "with man it is impossible, with God all things are possible" as an answer to their question "who then can be saved" and not if is possible for a person to let go of there possessions? If Jesus was not speaking of God's role whatsoever, then why didn't he tell the rich young ruler that it was impossible to sell his possession and follow him? Why would he say that it is hard when it is impossible?

Peter went on to say that they (the disciples) gave up everything to follow him. Why did he not correct peter?

You are correct. Salvation is possible because it is God who does it, man has nothing to do with it, "salvation is of the Lord".

Why did they say "Who then can be saved" after the interaction with the rich man? Jesus was making an extreme statement. The culture understood that rich men were blessed because they were righteous. Jesus was basically saying "See these "righteous ones" (as they perceived it)? It's easier for a camel .... That left them thinking who THEN can be saved! Jesus' answer... GOD saves.

Why did He say it was hard, when it is impossible? Isn't trying to do something impossible, hard?

Peter went on to say that they (the disciples) gave up everything to follow him. Why did he not correct peter?
Why should He correct Peter if Peter did what he said?
