  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I finally changed my faith listed back to Catholic, as I have been contemplating things.

I am in a small town with one priest, no choices. I was talking to him and he went off on how we need to get rid of guns because of the school shootings. He would have went off on that topic for a long time, but as soon as I turned the conversation to "the real heart of the problem is breakdown of families, and we need to go out to the culture and have an impact" - he left so fast I couldn't believe it.

My experience in the Catholic Church is it's all about social justice, and as soon as I talk to our clergy about things like, we need a Bible study, or need to reach out to people, they are done.

The Catholic Church here has gone so liberal, and does not teach or preach anything of substance. It's even hard to find anyone that knows scripture to fellowship with and talk faith.

I have decided to stay for now - but any thoughts on what to do?

in any church I would listen to what they say and compare it to what the Bible says. If you do that and pray for God's wisdom in what to do the answer will be clear to you. If you are in a place where you are not able to hear good preaching, you can listen on the radio, or online.

Yes - our priest sounds very little like the good, conservative Catholics I hear on the radio. I can't imagine getting to hear talks like that weekly compared to the lukewarm, flavorless mush we are served.

I know how you feel
I have similar problems with my parish

Here is a good YouTube channel
Sensus Fidelium

Think about Judas
He was a horrible man
But you do not leave Christ, Mary, Peter, and Paul over the actions of a few Judases

Pray for such a priest that God might reach him. He is ordained, so the sacraments he provides are fully valid, but as far as what he says you need better. Do what he says but not as he does.

Tune in to what bishop Barron is saying, or Msgr. Pope, or Fr. Rutler, or any number of other really orthodox Catholic teachers. A generation ago this would have been more difficult. Now it's relatively easy to supplement what is deficient.

Find a really good Catholic parish you can visit from time to time, even if it is only a few times a year. Just so you know that what you face is not the only way it is.

Don't get depressed or angry, but maintain the simple faith. We have survived Judas and even about ten truly bad popes.

The sermons at most Catholic parishes we go to are mediocre at best. Agreed, there is too much emphasis on social justice, and not much else. But the Catholic Church is still the Catholic Church. She is still raising up Holy Saints in spite of everything.

I agree with Rhamiel, check out Sensus Fidelium. And study some of the writings of the Saints, especially the modern ones.

Keep your options open - keep in touch with the East and eventually your path will be made clear.

Just remember - God is in charge - not you. His will be done. He has plans for you - listen to Him

What a wonderful opportunity!lBelieve it or not, my Parish was once rather....not very Christian in terms of its efforts. Sure, the Liturgies were mostly by the book and whatnot, but there was precious little focus on actual sacrifice, on real service to Christ. When my community needed a men’s shelter, my fellow parishiner founded one. When my Parish needed a men’s group, I started one. When our CCD program was in dire need of an overhaul because kids were slipping through the cracks, people of the Parish (though disappointingly few) gathered together to volunteer to make it a truly great program with engaged kids inspired by faith-filled adults giving demonstrations of sacrifice. Priests can do a lot, but they may not be equipped to do everything. If you see a breakdown of families or whatever in your community that means that there is a void waiting for you to fill. Find out what young families need and serve them. Isolate what good things they’re missing out on and inspire them by sharing your witness. Church is family:)

I seriously considered the East, and really love much of the perspective. The biggest thing that held me away seriously was lack of an available parish - an hour and a half a way would make Church once a month at best.

Hello Markie Boy,

What you are witnessing is way, way, way bigger than you could ever imagine. Jesus has told us, through St. Faustina, that His Second Coming is eminent and to prepare for it. When Jesus says, Will the Son of Man find any faith on earth when He returns, He is talking about our time. Spend less time worried about present conditions of apostasy and all your time preparing yourself and your family for Christ’s return. Christ’s Return is going to be a bloodbath of God's Wrath, as God wipes the unrepentant wicked from the face of the earth.

On the other hand, the Blessed Mother tells us that the remnant, who survives, will enter into the Golden Era of Mankind. The bible resounds the message that there will be survivors who inherit the earth. Even Jesus’ Blessed are the poor in spirit, the humble and meek, the pure of heart, for they will inherit the earth. One in ten will have the power to heal. It will be utopia under Messianic Reign. Christ’s enthronement is the second greatest event of all eternity; Second only to Christ’s birth, life, death and Resurrection. You are highly likely going to see Jesus come in His great Glory.

God will breath new life into His Church. The Blessed Mother says it is all Catholic on the other side. Sorry Eastern Orthodox.

Stay close to the Sacraments of the Church, especially the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Stay with Christ’s Church, the Catholic Church.

JESUS, THE DIVINE MERCY, by St.Faustina

Jesus looked at me and said, Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity. Secretary of My mercy, write, tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near. (Diary - Divine Mercy in My Soul, 965)

The Blessed Virgin Mary :

... you have to speak to the world about His great mercy and prepare the world for the Second Coming of Him who will come, not as a merciful Savior, but as a just Judge. Oh, how terrible is that day! Determined is the day of justice, the day of divine wrath. The angels tremble before it. Speak to souls about this great mercy while it is still the time for [granting] mercy. If you keep silent now, you will be answering for a great number of souls on that terrible day. ... (635)

Quoted from: www.DivineMercy.com

Luke 21:25 Coming of the Son of Man
"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Isaiah 13:9
Lo, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and burning anger; To lay waste the land and destroy the sinners within it! The stars and constellations of the heavens end forth no light; The sun is dark when it rises, and the light of the moon does not shine.
Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their guilt. I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, the insolence of tyrants I will humble. I will make mortals more rare than pure gold, men, than gold of Ophir. For this I will make the heavens tremble and the earth shall be shaken from its place, At the wrath of the LORD of hosts on the day of his burning anger.

Joel 3:1
Then afterward I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions;Even upon the servants and the handmaids, in those days, I will pour out my spirit. And I will work wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood, fire, and columns of smoke; The sun will be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, At the coming of the Day of the LORD, the great and terrible day. Then everyone shall be rescued who calls on the name of the LORD; For on Mount Zion there shall be a remnant, as the LORD has said, And in Jerusalem survivors whom the LORD shall call.

Psalms 96:11
Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and what fills it resound; let the plains be joyful and all that is in them. Then let all the trees of the forest rejoice before the LORD who comes, who comes to govern the earth, To govern the world with justice and the peoples with faithfulness.

Psalms 97
The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice; let the many islands be glad. Cloud and darkness surround the Lord; justice and right are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him; everywhere it consumes the foes. Lightning illumines the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim God’s justice; all peoples see his glory. All who serve idols are put to shame, who glory in worthless things; all gods bow down before you. Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice because of your judgments, O LORD. You, LORD, are the Most High over all the earth, exalted far above all gods. The LORD loves those who hate evil, protects the lives of the faithful, rescues them from the hand of the wicked. Light dawns for the just; gladness, for the honest of heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you just, and praise his holy name.

Psalms 110:1
A psalm of David. The LORD says to you, my lord: “Take your throne at my righthand, while I make your enemies your footstool.” The scepter of your sovereign might the LORD will extend from Zion. The LORD says: “Rule over your enemies! Yours is princely power from the day of your birth. In holy splendor before the daystar, like the dew I begot you.” The LORD has sworn and will not waver: “Like Melchizedek you are a priest forever.” At your right hand is the Lord, who crushes kings on the day of wrath, Who, robed in splendor, judges nations, crushes heads across the wide earth, Who drinks from the brook by the wayside and thus holds high the head.

Revelation 19:11 The King of kings.
The heavens were opened, and as I looked on, a white horse appeared; its rider was called "The Faithful and True." Justice is his standard in passing judgment and in waging war. His eyes blazed like fire, and on his head were many diadems. Inscribed on his person was a name known to no one but himself. He wore a cloak that had been dipped in blood, and his name was the Word of God. The armies of heaven were behind him riding white horses and dressed in fine linen, pure and white. Out of his mouth came a sharp sword for striking down the nations. He will shepherd them with an iron rod; it is he who will tread out in the winepress the blazing wrath of God the Almighty. A name was written on the part of the cloak that covered his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords."

It's good that you remain Catholic, as it's not advisable to abandon one's Catholic faith. Here's why: Can ex-Catholics be saved - A detalied look ....

Not every priest is like what you described above, there are still good priests around. Perhaps it's time for you to move to a better parish.
