  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Solid State Drives don't have platters. You're likely looking at a hybrid (SSHD).

I don't know what American pricing is like, and the Australian market is a bit up and down, but you're probably going to be looking at a minimum of $300-400.

If you've got enough room for a second drive (if it's a desktop computer you likely will) you're probably better off getting a 256 or 512GB SSD and keeping a secondary drive for all your big data storage.

Either way, I like Samsung SSDs, but pretty much all the brands on the SSD market work great. Intel tends to be more expensive but (arguably) perform a bit better better (but when you're going from a HDD to an SSD, anything will be way faster).

I also have SanDisk stuff that I'm fairly happy with.

The PCI-e lines are the fastest lines to the processor, I am thinking the Intel SS drive the faster. The computer seems to be performing well so this is not a big hurry. It looks like we have not seen a great deal of progress in the processing and RAM areas so I will not consider building a new computer. However these new hard drives are tempting! So far I am leaning towards the SAMSUNG 850 EVO or the Intel 550 PCI-e drives.

I had to replace the HD in my desktop, wound up with a 1TB non hybrid, non SSD from WD for 43.99 from Newegg..not the best, but no more crashes..had to replace the video card too. Fortunately, I had a spare hanging around..the machine runs like brand new.
One of these days,I'll be able to drop the bucks for a SSD.
