  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, I have a question for you guys. My dad seems to think that hardcore bands can't possibly be Christian because they sound angry. What do you guys think about that?
Is he saying they can't be Christians because they are angry
Its not a sin to be angry...it's what you do with it!
and just because they sound angry doesn't mean they are anyway....
I have heard some bands scream only in their songs when it is a lyric that is mentioning their own failures.
I think Emery stated that....
Bottom line for parents (like me of a 15 year old)
if they don't get it...they probably never will?

then again I grew up listing to bands like stryper and Iron Maiden....so their ya go!!!

What does he think of fire-and-brimstone preaching? The angriest Christian songs are about on the same level. Furthermore, just because music sounds angry to one person doesn't mean it is an angry song. You've got to read the lyrics to determine that.

Also, take a look at Psalm 150. It's pretty open-ended as to how people can praise Him musically. If that doesn't convince him, have him look at verse 3 in detail - "Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet." The trumpet the psalmist is talking about is the shofar, which was used to pump up the troops before battle. If ancient Israel could use the trumpet, I see no problem with the electric guitar.

Skillet ain't hardcore. Underoath I think used to be. TFK definitely isn't. Nothing against those bands, I like them (except TFK) but when I think hardcore, I think:

No Innocent Victim
Born Blind
Point of Recognition
Jesus Wept/xDisciplex A.D.
Six Feet Deep
Nailed Promise
Strongarm

And secular bands:

Agnostic Front
Earth Crisis
Hatebreed
Icepick
Madball
Sick Of It All
Stretch Arm Strong (yes, there are professing Christians in the band, but that doesn't make them a Christian band)
This list says all.
I'd add Istra, they are a screamo/hardcore hybrid.

So who out there likes the Hard-core-bang-ur-head type music? I'm talking:

underOATH, RED, Anberlin, Thousand Foot Krutch, Flyleaf, Disciple, Skillet, Monday Morning, Kutless, Dizmas, Norma Jean, and more....

Basically anything under Tooth & Nail, Solid State, and so one...

Are there any hard-core screamo punk rock fans out there? Then let them post...

~dryboneswalking~

I by the way LOVE underOATH, RED, and Anberlin...

Skillet? Hmmm....they are not screamo...

I will listen to anything once...I can't say I love full on screamo hardcore...but some of it is ok in the right environment.

ok, i know that skillet is NOT screamo...i was just asking if there were any hardcore screamo/punk/rock/ect. fans out there. I wasn't saying that Skillet was screamo...for they are definetely NOT! just like RED is NOT punk....just to clarify...i was just asking if there were any fans of different types of music, and what bands are ppl listening to, and so on. I'm not trying to get into debates on who is screamo and who isn't, on who is punk-rock and who isn't, i was just asking if there were any fans of these types of music, and what where some other bands in these genres. Forgive me please if I didn't make myself too clear in the beginning...I just LOVE hard/screamo/punk/rock stuff so i was just wondering who else did....
