  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, here's the dilemna.

I'm going through a divorce. My paperwork has been submitted, and awaiting the court's signature. My girlfriend's divorce is final and her command is aware of it. However, there is anohter problem and here it is.

She has a detachment sgt who will not leave her alone about our relationship. He threatens her with NJP and loss of rank and pay, and then had the gall to threaten me. I outrank her, as I'm a SGT and she's a SPC. However, we're both around the same age. We're in the same battalion, but different detachments. We live in the same barracks.

What's bad about the situation, is that the same detachment sgt has soldiers in his unit doing worse. One guy has been dating a married woman for over a year now, and nothing's happened to him. Another girl has been married, but has been sleeping around allot. Etc,etc,etc....you get the picture.

Any advice?

Assuming you are Army:

There is not a lot you can do about the other detachment unless you want to start the investigation with IG. Probably would not be effective at this point and may draw more fire.

As an NCO (regardless of the divorce issue, which needs to be final before you should even remotely think about calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend) dating a jr. enlisted can be a problem.

Remember, with the Army, perception is reality; whether it is true or not. And, a defense is not, look at what the other guy is doing; Commanders tend to frown on that kind of thing.

My best advice, do not continue the relationship until both divorces are finalized and complete. Once that is done, you should both be in the "clear" as far as the Army is concerned.
