Today western Christians celebrate the Feast of St. George, patron saint of England, Georgia, Ethiopia, Portugal, Brazil and parts Spain. Our Orthodox neighbors will celebrate this day in May.

Although the dragon legend was not added to the story for many centuries after the death of St. George. He was killed in 303 after refusing to recant his Christian faith. The dragon story didn’t appear until the Middle Ages.
