• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm new here. I've replied to a few threads so you may have seen me but basically I'm brand new.

I've been in a bit of a depression the last couple of weeks. It always happens after a hypomania which always happens after a stressful event. Kinda like clockwork. I'm getting my Pdoc to look at it.

But I've been a little worried (I know Be still and Know that I am God) that my disability would be cut off because I told them I was feeling a little bit better on a form that they sent me. Anyway, PTL they are going to continue covering me.:amen:

Anyway the question I wanted to ask is: Does anyone else get their BP symptoms triggered by stress events? I used to believe that it was just chemical and had nothing to do with events in my life but when I am on meds life triggers symptoms. When I am not on meds I don't need life stresses to trigger symptoms.

First of All...WELCOME CONNIE!!! Great to have you here.

I am bipolar II as well and I am pretty much as you described. depression sets in right after hypomania and if I'm stressed, it'll come too.

You're not alone even though your circumstances are unique.

I try to journal and talk as much as I can around then, and I just wait the episode out until I'm less stressed. It helps me to talk and write. More talk because I'm usually too pent up and distracted to write.

Blessings

Brianna

Dear Walshclan

I have the same problem. I found that meds work at a certain stress level. When I exceed that level i have problems.

Meds are not like the body that adjusts to the situation at hand. So find out where your stress limit is and try not to exceed it.

Sometimes you may well find that you will just have to walk away from a situation. If that happens just explain this to anyone involved.

IT'S THE NATURE OF THE DESEASE!!!

Welcome welcome. I have the exact same situation as you...kind of bipolar II. Stressful situation, hypomania and then a depression. Althought sometimes I get it in the reverse (PMS), depression and then hypomania. Anyways what you describe seems totally normal to me...well you know what i mean. I am trying to find a way to cut back on my stress to see if that will help...but that is so hard...doesn't seem like it is very doable. Can't quit my job, my kids are my kids, the finances are the finances and so forth. Perhaps we can find a way together?

Anybody else out there found a way to cut back on stress or have any tips?

Dear Berry2000

Why is it that folks think they can't do something???

If you were to lose it and they place you in a mental unit for treatment you are not at a job or taking care of children. That appears acceptable. But if we attempt to put measures into affect that reduce the stress level it seems impossible.

This goes beyond a matter of choice and becomes a necessity.

Try looking at this from that perspective.
