The tv show Hannibal is now on its second season on regular tv. What are your thoughts on it? For one I am confused as to why people watch it and then complain about its subject matter. Not sure if they don't know who/what hannibal is or what.

With that said I am actually surprised how gruesome it is for regular tv. When Dexter briefly aired on non-cable tv it was removed before the third episode because of its nature. Yet Hannibal is still going. Although after the recent episode I doubt its going to stay on tv much longer and will go to cable.

I'm for the show, but against most watching it. My love of psychology is what makes the show interesting to me. I don't watch it for the gore or dark matter in it. Minds just fascinate me. BTW heres a post from another thread about tv shows:

"I never liked slasher movies. BUt I didn't mind tv shows with gore for example. Such as Dexter. Dexter never bugged me or changed me. Although I didn't care for his sister's constant use of the the F word. And the occasional nudity wasn't need. Thankfully they toned that down the last few seasons before it ended.

But then there are shows like Breaking Bad or Game of THrones. Those I felt changed me. Something about the shows never sat well with me. So I stopped watching them and felt better. I still watch Hannibal now that Dexter is over.

I think my mind is fine with Dexter and Hannibal because being into psychology I find the characters interesting. What drives them to do what they do? Want makes them unsociable? What will they mess up while doing? Probably could have been a good profiler since I love this stuff. . Where as shows like GoT was not about characters like that. Its just made to be vile, violent, sexual, swearing filled. No real purpose other then entertain. The characters just "Are"."

The first time I ever heard of Hannibal was thru Silence of the lambs. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. I felt like them trying to make a franchise off of the Hannibal character wasn't a good thing but I know it's about making that money. Hannibal is one of the most memorable movie villains' in Cinema.

I never really watched the tv show Hannibal. I tried a little bit but the show just seemed really dark to me. I remember when they showed Dexter on tv. I could have liked that show, but I couldn't get past the premise. I couldn't agree with that, so I had to let it go. There are some Christians who enjoy these shows. It's a non-issue for me.

I do think it's part of a rabbit hole when some Christians watch non-Christian programming and then want to complain about it. It's like watching CSI and complaining about dead bodies...*sigh*.

Yeah, Dexter was weird for me. I was ok with him killing terrible people. But at the same time I was also against it. How it ended did make me feel better about watching it.

Hannibal is beyond dark. Makes Dexter look safe to watch. Stitching bodies together, ripping skin off, severed limbs... its going for shock factor it seems and I think just like Game of Thrones I may stop watching it.

Yeah see with everything you said about Hannibal, I'm glad I passed on that. It's fascinating though because I can watch Grimm just fine.

I don't have cable for my own personal reasons, so I get shows through the Library. It's great but in doing so I'm also behind a season. So I try to avoid spoilers. I think Game of Thrones is really tame when I compare it to Rome and Spartacus. Rome was really something else...whew! But it made me stop and think about how the real Rome was back then. I don't think they misrepresented the "spirit" of it.

I love Grimm. I think the difference between Hannibal violence and Grimms is we are used to fantasy violence about fantasy creatures. It sort of makes sense that they can be violent so we are less prone to be disgusted. But Hannibal is human. So seeing human on human violence is to real for us. Yeah GoT is definitely more tame compared to Rome or Spartacus. At season 2s episode of Spartacus I couldn't finish it and gave up on the series. And it did the same for me in terms of thinking of what it was like then.
