  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was doing my quiet time, and I was reading Luke chapter one, I love Elisabeth's prayer and it started to remind my of Hannah's prayer, so I went to 1 Samuel chapter one, and read Hannah's story. I thought they were strikingly similar, has anyone else noticed this and care to share their observations?

I am not saying that they are exactly the same, they do have many differences, but something about it just struck me and I decided to post here to see if anyone had any thoughts on the topic.

Yes, this appears as a running theme throughout Scripture; a previously barren woman who eventually gives miraclulous birth to an important figure. This series begins with the birth of Isaac to barren, 90-year old Sarah (Gen 18.1-5, 21.1-7; and it's at least hinted at with Rachel and her difficulty in conceiving, but her finally giving birth to Joseph, Gen 30.22), then continues with Samson being born to Manoah and his wife (Judges 13) and Samuel to Elkanah and Hannah (as you've already noted, in 1 Sam 1.1-2.10). After the birth of John the Baptist to Elizabeth (Lk 1.57) the series culminates and concludes with the birth of Jesus to the virgin Mary (Lk 2.7).
