Handicrafts and such ...

I find that when I get in the creative mood, I sit down and start to write poetry. I generally write what comes to mind.

At times I have sat down and drawn pictures using pastels or charcoal.
I took several art classes in school and really enjoyed it greatly. I was surprised to find out what level of artistic talent I had. Now as a father of a 15 month old son, I don't have a great deal of time sit down and let my creative juices flow.

I write as well, mostly non-fiction stories. I'm not too good with the drawing or painting though.

I like to refurbish old pieces of furniture, mostly tables or chests. I also make bath salts and soaps, as well as candles. Also: making bead jewelry, painting ornaments, and decorating plain frames.

One of my favorite crafts is to buy a box of plain wood children's blocks from a craft store and paint the individual blocks. I then paint the outer box and personalize it to give to a friend who is expecting a baby. After the baby is born, I add the birthday to it with a simple paint pen, or the parents do it if they want to.

I find anything that gets the creative juices flowing is a good hobby and is also a good way to relax.

Creativity in one area seems to seep into other areas also... I write as well as handicraft... would love to be able to draw also, I try but it is obvious that any success I have had has been from sheer stubbornness and not talent!
