Hand Sanitizer Eucharist?

Anyone else go through this, and do you have any feed back on what to make of this?

I received the host and it tasted in my mouth like hand sanitizer.

This is not my parish and I was visiting and just horrified.

The priest made good use of washing his hands with hand sanitizer right before giving out Holy Communion.

I have not experienced it. My priests sanitize before Mass. Everything after that is fine and practiced as it normally is.

Yeah I've had that happen a few times. Throughout the pandemic about half the priests celebrating the Masses I've gone to have sanitized their hands when they come forward to administer Holy Communion. I definitely notice when they've done that and it bothers me, but nothing I can do about it.

It's noteworthy that the Latin Masses I've gone to where we receive at the rail and on the tongue, the priests don't sanitize their hands as far as I know. And I recall some research showing that there are actually fewer germs exchanged when you receive that way. I believe it.

So very, very, incredibly sorry to hear of this!
I think that the priest who was presiding at that service must have not realized the image he was projecting to the communicants when he did this thing:
1. That God was not all powerful over Covid.
2. That God would allow to be placed before us tainted wafers.
3. That the Holy Spirit would not warn us beforehand if the wafers were tainted.
4. And worst of all, that the prayers that are prayed by every priest at the beautiful, and holy consecration of God's Holy Eucharist had no effect.
May God forgive him!

This is so very, very unfortunate!

Not to mention the total consecration of the Priest himself as he prepared for the mass, praying special prayers of consecration for himself, and as he blessed and donned each garment that he wore that day.

This preparation to receive by the laity, and the preparation by the priest to share Christ's Holy Blood and His Holy Body goes so far beyond the concerns of sanitation practices, that they should never ever be thought of as belonging together in a mass.

Thats twice, and I cannot figure out why he had to turn from the altar table and hand sanitize before reaching into the tabernacle?!

At what point did he acquire covid 19, from the altar to the tabernacle?

That would have been impossible. The tabernacle is the Holy place of God.
So nothing that is corrupt could exist within it.
That is why a priest washes and dries his hands, and asks God to cleanse him, before handling the Body of Christ.

I think there are multiple arguments to be made here, but in an every day sense I don't think it's desecration. I mean the intention behind it isn't violence and disrespect, if anything it's the opposite. Nevertheless in a just world the flesh and blood of our Lord would never touch anything but the hands of a cleric and our tongues. But we work with the times we're born into.

Not for nothing but I think there was a study done in 2020, or maybe before, that proved it's actually less contaminating to receive the Eucharist on the tongue because it's being handled by fewer people (ourselves and EMHCs). Our mouths aren't what's touching doorknobs, bathroom faucets, animals...at least I hope not. But our hands sure are. The priests hands aren't only prepared and abluted already without hand sanitizer, but they're the only truly consecrated hands meant to handle the Eucharist as well.

You're missing the point.
Germs were not created by God.
They cannot live in God's presence.
So to insinuate that any item inside the Tabernacle of God could hold germs, or would need to be cleansed from germs would be faulty reasoning.

Who created germs then? Not all germs and bacteria are bad.

I really don't know the answer as to where germs came from if not from God.

Only the Lord our God has the ability to Create.

Nothing can be formed by anyone else, like fallen angels and their minions.

If God created the Earth, then all things in it are created.

This includes bacteria, and viruses.

Altering and manipulating what God created....is this what you mean here, pdudgeon?

I would just simply bring it up to the priest. Perhaps he didn't wait until his hand were dry before he handled the Eucharist.

If you make sure you're not one of the first three communicants to receive the sacrament you should be fine. The alcohol from the sanitizer should wear off through condensation and the touching of said three hosts prior to yours. Its unfortunate and borderline preposterous the way they sanitize these days. Remember guys, alcoholic wont do away with nothing but bacteria. Thus Covid-19, like any other virus, will remain intact and able to infect you.

@pdudgeon, as for trusting in God, I'll say that it only proves that they take the pandemic seriously. Its all about visualizing a serious display. The same goes for facial masks. Its all about appearance...

Oh, wow, that's quite an unusual experience you had with the Eucharist tasting like hand sanitizer. I can only imagine how shocking and bewildering that must have been, especially since it was in a different parish. It's definitely not something you'd expect during such a sacred moment.

I've seen them do this immediately after touching someone's tongue who received by mouth.
The idea would be to ensure that touching the next Eucharist for the next guy, they're not spreading something.

Just my observations.
I don't think it's anything sinister.
