Hamas leader says Palestinian deaths put Israelis 'right where we want them'

Messages from Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar to other top Hamas officials reflect a willingness to sacrifice thousands of Palestinian deaths to gain a permanent cease-fire − one that allows Hamas to declare a historic victory by outlasting Israel and claim leadership of the Palestinian national cause, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Journal says it reviewed dozens of messages, including one in which Sinwar cited civilian losses in Algeria, where hundreds of thousands died fighting for independence from France, saying, “these are necessary sacrifices.”

In an April 11 letter to Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh after three of Haniyeh’s adult sons were killed by an Israeli airstrike, Sinwar wrote that their deaths would “infuse life into the veins of this nation, prompting it to rise to its glory and honor.”

I already knew that Hamas would pull a stunt like this. :(

Hopefully Hamas can be eliminated, and their leader(s) held in jail for life. Hamas is pure evil.

How many messages did they have to go through to find the ones they did?
My concern is that Netanyahu seems willing to let over 3 million starve and die, homeless, cornered...to get an estimated 30,000 Hamas members.
Israel is renowned for its intelligence network--and the foundation of just war theory is protecting the innocent, especially women and children.
Its current war is horrifying not only Americans, but also its neighbors. Israel has bombed Lebanon airports near its border.
Arab nations remember 1967, when Israel more than doubled the geographical boundaries of the land granted them in 1948 with its 6 day war.
America has student protests but other nations may retaliate much more strongly.

The raw data says that if there's anyone going without food in Gaza, it's not because Israel is doing too little. They send more food than necessary, but there's no saying what's happening once it crosses the border into Gaza. See Experts: ICC, UN blamed Israel for a famine that never happened in Gaza - exclusive
Hi and welcome to CF and forum 79!

Haaretz has long commented on jpost[.]com of having Bebe Netanyahu as “editor in chief”, so the source is a wee bit tainted.

Israel would then have no choice but to starve its enemy to the peace-table?

All Hamas has to do is surrender, stop rocket attacks and release the hostages. But they would rather kill their own citizens.

hmm

I suppose that Israel could accept a cease fire and wait for countries to pour billions into Gaza. And in a couple of years, Hamas would simply attack again and we have this situation all over again.

The truly amazing situation in this cycle is the cooperation and support given by Arab states to Israel, especially Jordan, Egypt and Qatar. The Arab states want peace with Israel. This situation needs to be over so that the Arab states and Israel can continue signing their treaties.

Of course, the process toward peace is made difficult considering all the support given to Hamas by the world's leftists, and the continuing truly horrible policies by Israel's government, especially in the West Bank

I was unaware the LGBTQ folk operated with a “hive-mind”; I’m sure that many do not support Palestinians, as is their right…some apparently do, and have taken to the streets with this concern.

They speak with a hive mind to the extent that their narritive is the same across the spectrum. Just like the Democratic Party.

???

This issue splits the Democratic Party more than any other. Much of so-called progressives have been pro-Palestinian and also anti-Israel for many years. On the other hand, most Democrats (led by Biden) have long been solid supporters of Israel. Pro-Israel groups are among the most influential lobbyists in the Democratic Party.
