  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’ve just spoken to a women who has two children who are friends with my younger siblings. She believes that Halloween is an evil holiday (as I’m sure many of you do, but for the ones that don’t.) I have no clue what to say to something like that, though I don’t believe Halloween is an evil holiday at all, it did stem from a Christian one.

Today, Halloween really has nothing to do with anything more than kids dressing up and getting candy from their neighbors. I am close to many Christian families with small children and they're all allowed to celebrate Halloween. There's nothing satanic about dressing up as Bob the Builder/Dora the Explorer and getting lots of chocolate.

I doubt she’s daft enough to believe that her children have anything to do with the way people display the holiday as. There is NOTHING evil about the holiday and she knows that, I think she’s blinded by the fact she believes that the holiday stems from a Wicca one.

Dear GrungeGirl

The real TRUTH behind halloween!!!

" Many Christians celebrate holidays, such as Halloween, without thinking about their origins or true meaning. It is impossible to separate Halloween from the Druids because they originated the "holiday."
For several hundred years before Christ, the Celts inhabited what is now France, Germany, England, Scotland and Ireland. Celtic priests were called Druids. These people were eventually conquered by the Romans.

The founding fathers of America refused to permit the holiday to be observed because they knew it was a paganOctober 31st and was celebrated by the Druids with many human sacrifices and a festival honoring their sun god and Samhain, the lord of the dead. They believed that the sinful souls of those who died during the year were in a place of torment, and would be released only if Samhain was pleased with their sacrifices. holiday. Halloween was not widely celebrated in the U.S. until about 1900. In the 1840's there was a terrible potato famine in Ireland which sent thousands of Catholic Irish to America. They brought Halloween with them.
The modern custom of going from door to door asking for food and candy goes back to the time of the Druids. They believed that sinful, lost souls were released upon the earth by Samhain for one night on October 31st while they awaited their judgment. They were thought to throng about the houses of the living and were greeted with banquet-laden tables. People greatly feared these spirits and thought that the spirits would harm and even kill them if the sacrifices they gave did not appease Samhain. They carved demonic faces into pumpkins or large turnips, placing a candle in them to keep the evil spirits away from their homes.

How does this make Halloween Satan’s holiday? This holiday did not start with whom you claim, perhaps some of the same customs are used but it is very clear that It started with All Hallows Eve.

p.s. your font is annoying .
Dear GrungeGirl

That was ONLY long after when the pope got a hold of it.

Albeit I celebrated the holiday as a kid, I'm not so sure about it anymore. It is definatly a pagan holiday and really doesn't celebrate anything good. It celebrates death, demons, and psycho hocky mask wearing killers.

Think of it as kids dressing up as their favorite Star Wars characters.

I remember trick-or-treating at one house where they gave out Christian cartoon tracts. It can be a positive time if we have the right attitude.
Dear Radhead

Are you suggesting they take their children and enjoy themselves with the EVIL SPIRITS???

Like it's ok dear, Just go and get your candy with satan's curse and have fun???

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY WE SHOULD EVER CELEBRATE satan's DAY???

I'm starved for UNDERSTANDING this!!!

BETTER YET, REMEMBER:

Halloween is what you make of it, nothing more, nothing less. I personally find nothing wrong with Halloween, and I have no problem with people who choose not to celebrate it. What I do have a problem with is people pushing their views on others and presenting their opinions as Biblical fact. I honestly do not see the big deal of dressing up in a princess costume and going out and getting candy. Tell me what is Satanic about that? I grew up in a Christian home and we always celebrated Halloween. We weren't allowed the scary costumes, but believe me Satan worship was not a topic that was discussed when we were out getting candy.

What?

I didn't mention hell in my post and please explain to me how halloween and hell are in any way related. Hell is not what I make of it, and I never claimed that. The discussion here is about Halloween, not hell.

i dont think its evil (clothes are clothes, from a cloth sack to a devil costume, the only power they could hold over you are what youve already let into your heart). at its best, dressing up as monsters does in reality is to teach children that mythical monsters are not to be scared of. which is basicaly the truth, but it leaves the door of fear open so that kids wont go off with 'strangers' (thats what they were called when i was a child, i think they are called peodaphiles now), which very sadly is a real threat. but this message of greed for sweats or money (aka trick or treat) is a bit distrubing, same thing i supose happens at christmas with the desires/pressures for presants. well thats what i think

Wowwww I just sat here and read all of your thoughts on Halloween and thought as Christians we shouldn't judge other people. Lets don't go over board with Halloween. All it's about is kids dressing up and enjoying themselves. We should always go around with our children to protect them, but this holiday is nothing more. Maybe way back when it was regarded as anti-religious, but today it's fun for the kids.
I have been on this site for about a year now and wonder why Christians are persecuted? We should offer guidance, help and advice to people and not judge other people or christians. May God Bless you all.

I have not time to repost posts from other threads but if you follow these links they will take you to:

An article researched from primary source materials.
http://www.christianforums.com/t3839899-the-real-truth-about-halloween.html

http://www.christianforums.com/t4004307-halloween-and-the-forces-of-darkness.html
Thread that contains refutes against the dafter Christian myths CHICK is not regarded highly as a valid source because they do not research prior to publication. It is Christian tabloid at its worst.

I used to celebrate samhain not hallowe'en.
I also researched and authored the article on the truth about hallowe'en.

If you have any questions your welcome to ask me and I will answer as my time allows.
