• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Halloween!

Well I'm certainly looking forward to copious amounts of candy, and dressing up in a sweet costume.

I guess you could say 16 is too old to go trick or treating but hey I wants me some candy :D
No worries! As my girlfriend always tells me "A girl can never be too old to be a few years younger."

Theres a haunted house in Plano that's supposed to be the epitome of scary. You have to sign a bunch of waivers just to be allowed in. I hear tell you get pushed out of a window once you reach the 13th story of the building (onto one of those things they use to break people's fall in movies, I hope...)

Problem is, no one seems to know where this building is, or what it's called, etc. I'm pretty sure there's not even any 13 story buildings in plano. It's too bad, I was really looking forward to being pushed out a 13 story building. :)

You talking about Plano, Texas? Where do you live, man? If you don't mind my asking, that is.

...Then that party pooper guy had to go look it up on snopes and find out it's all a fake. Dang it. Someone should really take the initiative and make a haunted house like that.
Aw, c'mon, I didn't mean to say they were ALL fake. Actually, I happened to look through hauntedhouses.com and noticed there seem to be some very decent looking HH's, mostly around the Houston and Austin areas.

That may have been its' meaning at one time. Modern Irish Gaelic translates it simply as "November."

And brilliant.

What will I do this Halloween? ...drink, probably. Although since it's on a Monday this year, I'll probably stop after 7 or 8 martinis instead of 11 or 12.

I will not be drinking because I have entirely too much work to do. However, after I present my poster in Ft. Lauderdale for ESA, I'm getting more wasted than even YOU can possibly imagine.

with regard to trick or treating, we don't get too much of that in england, at least where i live, many people think of it as begging. We tend to organise kids fancy dress parties instead, with loads of sweets and games.

It's interesting the way things are celebrated differently around the world. I am also looking forward to guy fawkes night on the 5th of november, that is always fun!

My last midterm is on the 29th. I'll be de-stressing for days.

I can imagine quite a bit. ;)

When my son was little, he really hated Reese's peanut butter cups, so he always happily handed them over to me. Now, curse the luck, his tastes have matured and all he's willing to part with are Dum-Dums. Ah well, it was lovely while it lasted.

Are you in grad school yet?

Not for a few years. I'm a freshman in an honours photonics program.

Yeah, you have me beat on the workload. :p

(Admittedly, my "Drink your way to marks" program is going pretty good. I just found out I wrote a perfect physics mid, and the class average was 63%.)

I live in mckinney. Or more presicely, a nowhere town between mckinney and princeton called new hope. (conspicuously absent from all this 'hope' the title implies)

I drank my way through the first two years of college. I've since stopped, and my grades have slightly falled.

Seriously.

Thankies! It was my first university midterm, so it's a nice way to kick things off. Linear algebra tomorrow, though, and I need to have 17 theorems memorized. (Among other things.)

The funny thing is that I'm actually considering changing my program. University physics is...dreary. I get bored unless I'm dealing with a lot of new material.

What? Begging? Oh dear me, then who'll be collecting pennies for the Guy? ;)

It should get better when you get into the higher level courses. Unless, of course, you're already in the higher level courses. If that's the case you should switch to biology, which is the awesomest ;)

Bah! I'll never change to a soft science! :p

I'm going to have to spend $150 for the Feynman Lectures on Physics, just to keep me from going mad and becoming bitter about my major.

Good plan. You know what they say about idle hands. Especially the idle hands of drunk undergraduate geeks.
