  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you allow your tween-teen to highlight or change their hair color. Guess this goes along with the belly button question.

Taylor's hair is highlighted. We had it done last summer. One of the reasons we did it is because it is so thin and fine that it makes it feel thicker. It is really pretty.

She has a nervous habbit of pulling her hair and this also helps her to not want to pull it and it helps to keep the pulled spots that are shorter blended and you can't really tell they are there.

This was another trend she started at her school.

I don't think I would care about highlights,But wouldn't want them to completely change their hair color until at least 13 years old.I knew someone in Junior High and High School that died her hair every color, even blue,Grey. She got straight A's,So hair color wouldn't be my issue.
She has a nervous habbit of pulling her hair
That would concern me more.I would talk to a therapist or something about that. Here might be a reason she's doing that,Like stress or something.

We have been. It isn't bad this year. Last year it was horrible, she was so stressed over this test they had to take.

Why couldn't you have posted this in that thread and just allowed that thread to evolve? The entire first page is full of threads you created when most of them could have been grouped into 2 or 3 threads. It's very spam-like.
Do I do anything right?

I have been dying/highlighting my hair since I was about 12-14. As my sisters have too, I see no problem in it!
I understand that. I just don't color my hair now because of the work and the expense.

A friend of mine spends $700 on getting her hair done. How the heck can you spend that on your hair.

No, I seriously don't think so. I agree with Tea about the vanity thing- I just don't want my girls to be so focussed on clothes, makeup, hair etc like the rest of society.

And since I've never coloured my hair (although I was accused of it at high school- damn that blonde hair/brown eyebrow combo :ebil: ) I don't think they will even ask.

Is that what my daughter has to look forward to?

Just for what it's worth, we are so very far from vain in our home. I'd be upset if any of my children wanted to color their hair to be like everyone else.

I get my hair highlighted every 4 months or so in order to keep the mouse-brown at bay. But my 10 yod doesn't really need hair color right now. She has really pretty hair that is silky blond and smooth. She has a few colored extensions made out of real human hair that her aunt who is a hair stylist gave her. One's dark brown, one's red, and one's blue. They look really cool on her and we can change them out and have fun with combinations.

That is crazy!!! When i cant afford it I do it myself wiht a box dye. I have dyed my sisters hair for hte longest time, i can even do tipping and highlights! :)

But on my own, its single color if I do it myself, otherwise when I go get it done, i usually get two or three colors put in, but it has never cost me over $120.00 includeing styling.

Oh I wouldn't care--and I don't even think it's vanity neccesarily...

I change my hair cut and color all the time--and it's just because it's fun and I like changing it. I am not dissatisfied with the hair God gave me, I just think it's fun to do new stuff to my hair--I don't feel like I am improving upon it--just playing with it.

I actually have very little attatchment to my hair--if it is long or all cut off, brown or purple- it actually makes no difference to me- it's just hair. So in many ways my attitude about my ever changing hair--is far less vain thatn someone who takes pride in their long natural locks.

No; firstly because I'd have to pay for the dye & I'm not into doing that for something so frivolous & unnecessary (when they pay for it I don't care); secondly dying/colouring falls into the 'more adult' activities that I think our girls are better of waiting for ~ while still children they should be doing kid things imo; thirdly we also think it falls into the vanity basket & to be discouraged along with obsessing over clothes/fashion, the latest teen gadget, & fads of all shapes & sizes. Our focus has always been on character & personality, doing/being an interesting person, than outward appearances. That's us though. Everyone's different but I'm just not that way & my girls are mre like me than they are like their peers.
