  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

no but I've heard the same thing so I always avoided it. Wonder if you can use some natural product, or just not have your scalp touched or something. Or maybe its the fumes?
No idea! You're probably wondering why I posted a reply then!:D

haha, well I'm thinking its the fumes too.. that stuff can be really stinky. Especially the ammonia in it... Maybe I can still do it, but be in a really open area..

I personally wouldn't risk it. You don't have long to go why not wait until your precious baby arrives?

Good idea.. but I'm not patient :( i have NO patience! I've already bought the box of hair color! .. but for the sake of our baby, I think I will..

I've just now googled it.. and i keep seeing.. "ITS OK TO DYE YOUR HAIR WHILE PREGNANT".. and then "NO! IT WILL HARM THE BABY!" so eh :\ I think i might just wait.. or until I get to the doctor.. my next appointment is tuesday anyways.. lol

It's the ammonia that's potentially harmful, but I have seen do-it-yourself hair colouring kits that claim to be ammonia-free. I'm not sure if hairdressers would use these or not. If you phone around you may be able to find someone who does. If you can't though, it's probably best to be cautious and give it a miss until bubs is born. How many times in the past have things been deemed safe, only to find out ten years down the track that they causes this, that, and the other? That's just IMHO though :)

God Bless,
Kristy

Ammonia-free colouring kits may contain something just as bad (for permanent colour). I bought one once and yikes... it was nasty stuff. Never again. Some people recommend that you stick to temporary dyes only... the ones that wash out in a month or so.

Be wary with henna... I don't think many studies have been done, but the ones that have seem to've found more obvious issues with henna than with the chemical dyes. Typical, eh?

This was the first thing I asked when I went for my first appointment. The nurse laughed and said it is fine, that the prohibition comes from back in the day when hair dyes were much stronger than they are now.

I read that somewhere.. thanks for sharing. I just needed reassurance! I don't know if it's just me or what, but lately I've been wanting to make myself up and just be pretty :) nothing wrong with that?

nothing wrong with that at all. Joshua Copel, M.d> prof. of ob and gyn at Yale said that there is :no major data suggesting that hair coloring increases risk of birth defects or miscarriage." He also suggested that you wait until after your first trimester because then the baby's organs have already formed. I have been waiting to dye mine but I think I am in some serious need of a new hair color!!!

I dyed my hair all the way through my last 3 pregnancies (and highlighted before that with previous pregnancies). I was told by several hair stylists, OBs, and midwives that it's fine.

Personally, I think the fumes from perms are worse than hair color... and think of all the hair stylists who color everyone Else's hair while They're pregnant! :o

Ditto! I dyed my hair when I first got pregnant (from bright pink back to auborn) and the fumes made me vomit. :p I figured getting it over with was better than walking around with faded pink hair and brown roots for 9 months. :)
