Haggai what an absolutely amazing 2 chapter Book.
Haggai 1
6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. 7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
The people had forgot where water , food and money really came from. The Lord's House lay in ruins while people where drinking , eating and playing. Haggai has been commanded by the Lord to rebuild the Temple and remind them who brings a drought , hail and mildew.
11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
The people remembered there is only One that can call on a drought so they feared.
Haggai 2
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the Lord . 18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid, consider it.
Jesus changed many things and how and what we build is one of them.
Luke 20:17
And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Luke 21:5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
1 Corinthians 3:16Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
In the time of Solomon and now Haggai they labored hard and long to build that physical Temple. We are to work as long and hard doing the same.
We where left with the Holy Spirit of God after the Cross. We still put a lot of labor , money and time into physical buildings. Much more time than we do building our temple. Jesus shows us it can be a lake , river , mountain or field to build Spiritual temples.
Haggai 2:15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord.
We where made to be focused and labor as they did in Haggai to build the church and Jesus is the corner stone. They forgot in Haggai and we have as well. Everything on earth will pass away , Jesus did not tell us to build a physical building. Jesus showed us those buildings divide and we can not be more divided than we are now by buildings. Ever wonder why God Blessed Mr Graham outside in neutral settings ???
