yes as people have said it depends on what the persons intent is. if they want to do harm the yes it is a sin because it is illegal.
but if its for security reasons ie finding flaws etc, then i see no problem with it.

Well, positive or negative, the question is whether or not you're authorized to have entrance, and whether or not your entrance is within the scope and boundaries of that authorization.

If it isn't your computer and you haven't been given permission, than you have no business doing it. Period.

Do you program in any languages? Do you do anything else interesting?

If you really want to learn web design, and you can't afford expensive software, maybe you should use free software. You can learn your way around just as well, perhaps better, and it's not even similar to stealing.

i'm learning computer science and web design at college. So far the languages i know are, HTML, CGI-PERL, ASP, PHP, some MySQL, VB, IRC scripting, and basic C++. I have download free or trail software but when i try to apply for a job they expect me to have the knowledge of those programs ex: photoshop, dreamweaver(not much to know there), flash, etc. But i have stopped downloading music off the internet and starting buying my own CDs. So i'm slowly improving

the term hacker was originally used for someobody who found bugs in software.
the term cracker is one who obtains unauthorized access to another computer.
