Sproul jr. "In August 2014, in a moment of weakness, pain, and from an unhealthy curiosity, I visited Ashley Madison. My goal was not to gather research for critical commentary, but to fan the flames of my imagination. There I found two gracious judgments. First, I felt the grace of fear. Second, I felt the grace of shame. I was there long enough to leave an old email address. And within minutes I left, never to return. I did not sign up for their service or interact with any clients. I have always remained faithful to my wife even after her passing."

The situation with Sproul Jr. is interesting. His wife died in 2011 and he has not remarried. His Ashley Madison visit was in 2014, so what is the worst case with this situation? He was visiting a website dedicated to promoting evil behavior.

I think he was just satisfying a morbid curiosity. Not a very wise thing to do.

His father is a brilliant man, and they say that greatness always skips a generation, so his kids should be brilliant also.

Patheos is not a reliable source, but this whole thing should be looked at as a tragedy, not some big joke. The pastor for my old church was on that list and he had to resign. He was a good man and I refuse to mentally retcon him out of existence like Christian society likes to do. And when we do that it just gives the so-called "anti-theists" more fuel to mock us.

He was defrocked in 2006, refused a transfer from the ARP to the PCA, for spiritual abuse of the families in his congregation. Don't forget the misuse of the ARP tax ID number.

Read it here.

I read about all of that when it first came out. It all seemed like a tempest in a teapot to me, but he does seem to make a few too many unfortunate choices.

Who said it was funny or that it was a joke? Who said we need to "retcon him out of existence?" You are being overly emotional.

Yours in the Lord,

Sorry. I was just not feeling good earlier today, and it made me angry how that woman writing the article just seemed to be enjoying the fact that many people's lives have been ruined.

All right, both you and JM take a deep breath. You're dealing with yet another person who exchanged the 'addiction' of Fundamentalism for the 'addiction' of Fundamentalist Bashing. It is about what you'd expect.

The whole point is that she was quoting another pastor who made the 400 prediction. It was not her own prediction.

The Southern Baptist pastor in question is well respected. i've read his work in some of Michael Horton's early books.

Anyone know the stats of people viewing porn in their hotel rooms while attending Christian conferences? I had the stat but can't find it.
i find it frightening that somebody would actually have access to such statistics and be able to cross reference them to guests at any given facility.

When you have to pay to view, they know exactly what you're watching.

When has the world been at a loss for hypocrites? There will always be those who think themselves so secure in the position they hold that they can jeopardize everything they hold dear with impunity. People are foolish in many ways and have justified their activities to themselves on as many levels as they can to assuage their guilt. Unfortunate each level collides with the level beneath it when their house of cards come cascading down over their heads.

I would not look too closely at those who relish the fall of another human being. They tend to be those who relish the company of those in misery because it eases their own misery. The trouble is they will never be without their own misery because they are comfortable there.

That somebody could get access to those records even for the purpose of compiling the statistics is still something that should give one pause, and not because of the pornography issue.

i rarely even turn on the television when i am away on a job --which can last for months. Of course since i do not own a television i am missing nothing. The car radio is good enough for news, and the internet for communications.

i see a man who should be removed from any pastoral function and/or leadership position. This is very obviously a case where somebody has issues that needs be dealt with, and that cannot happen while he is in such a position.

My own view is that it disqualifies him from a similar role in the future. i am also not in the least bit happy about it.

Are we in disagreement in anything that you've said. No, but the list of those who claim stewardship of the Christian community and has fallen is a long and sullied one.

Power and influence steeped in arrogance and entitlement have laid low many a person who by casuale observation walked a streight line right up until the ground was removed from below them and they found themselves in a freefall into oblivion.

I have very little tolerance for sexcapades like this. Can he be forgiven? Of course. Should he work in any religious capacity ever again? Heck no. I am not trying to be a Donatist, I am not saying such people should not be let back into the church, but they have proved to be hypocrites and should be disciplined, not continue making a living saying "do as I say and not as I do."

Remember, the issue is not that he went on a dating website, or that he committed adultery. There's nothing wrong with dating sites and his wife is dead. THe issue is that he chose a website dedicated to fornication. It would be like caught trying to score drugs, then having second thoughts, and then leaving. It is so long ago, but I might have smoked marijuana once months after I was saved, not knowing it was sinful. So, I do not doubt that Rc Sproul Jr can be saved, but HE MUST be held to a higher standard.

When it comes to women, Christian men have to fight mercilessly against Satan. I am tired of the sort of lackluster approach, watching Christian men oggle at women, struggle with porn so much that Christian organizations say "don't embarrass us at the hotel to the staff by looking at porn!," watching secular TV smut like game of thrones, and stuff such as this. We are called to a heavenly standard, that includes when your wife is not looking. We are under the gaze of an all-seeing God who is just and absolutely hates sin, and our hypocritical pretenses.
