HACKER TRYING TO CRACK INTO CF ACCOUNTS - Please ensure you have a difficult password

There is a hacker who has been trying to crack into CF accounts. What he is doing is trying different passwords on different accounts hoping to find one with an easy password.

Although the IP address shows up as:
67.18.200.5

this is NOT the IP address of the hacker, but the IP address of our load balancer. In fact, at the moment, EVERYONE on CF has this IP address. This is because of the current way I have set up our load balancing to speed up our webservers.

I will fix this so the true IP address shows up.

In the meantime, to protect your account, please ensure you have a difficult to crack password!

I repeat, there is a REAL HACKER trying to hack into accounts here.

Yes, please change your passwords to a harder one.

I don't think anyone's account has been compromised, as long as your password is hard to remember.

If you are locked out, just wait, then try again. The locking out is a security measure.

If you got a message your IP was banned, it's because I tried to ban the IP but I quickly realised everyone has this IP at the moment as this is the IP of CF's load balancer server. So don't worry about reporting the IP you see in the email if it's 67.18.200.5 - it's our load-balancer server IP. If you see a different IP in your emails though, let me know.

I get the very same message, that I've used up my login attempts and have to wait 15 minutes. I just tried it not more than one minute ago under a new account... I created it just so I could log out of it and try to log back in to see if it would work and it didn't.

Definitely, and I must say that though I pray for this hacker I certainly hope he is discovered and receives the full measure of the law as 'hacking' is a felony, at least in the United States.

VAGal just IMed me and asked me to post this:

I have been locked out for the past 2 hours from this hacker I suppose. I tried to create a new account, and the same thing happened with it. The error message that I get is that there have been multiple failed login attempts and to try again in 15 minutes. I wait, and the same thing continues to happen. I thought maybe this would help Erwin in some way.

Looks like the hacker is trying to get into her account.
