  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any fans of the .hack project? I've always admired the fact that alot of the action isn't in fighting or heroism, but in simple social interaction and friendship.

And... this is kind of unrelated... but considering this is the anime section, I just have to put this down:

Q: How many DBZ characters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: One, but it'll take them three episodes.

Well, yes, but I'm not just talking about //roots or the game series. The .hack project encompasses a vast storyline by using various formats like games, manga and anime, based on the game "The World", which seized the gaming market in the early 2000s after a computer virus named Pluto's kiss wiped out all operating systems but the one The World runs on, Altimit OS.

It started with the anime .hack//sign, then went into the game series (.hack//infection, .hack//mutation, .hack//outbreak, and .hack//quarantine). I missed that game series too, but I plan on playing the new ones based on //roots. =3 On two side stories, four people try to find out what is causing all the comas during game play in .hack//liminality, while in .hack//legend of the twilight follows two characters that win a contest and get chibified characters.

There were also various books and card games based on the series.

Then, according to the .hack storyline, the CC-Corp building caught fire and The World had to be remade into The World R:2, which quickly became a cesspool of player killers. That's where .hack//roots (which I agree, it had a nice storyline~) took off, and the newest game series, .hack//g.u. (which will run 3 volumes long, Rebirth is already out and another is coming out this year), is based on the events of //roots.

Wow, I just scared myself. Though, it's not an obsession, I swear.

I only watched the first series, really difficult to do at the time.

Found myself drawn to it mainly because I could relate to main charactor alot. I agree on orginal acessment, they geared it on their interactions with one another.

As for other Hacks I not seen them.

.hack//sign was the first I saw, too. Great series. .hack//roots, the series after the first game series can easily be found on the internet if you search for it, but I think it lacks the spirit and interesting personalities like Tsukasa that //sign had.

~Spoiler: next paragraph is written in the assumption that the reader has watched the .hack//sign series~

I still don't fully understand why Tsukasa was able to awaken Aura, but I do have a theory, based on the information that came in the .hack//G.U. "Terminal" file disk that was with the special edition of the game, which was a series of out-of-order files by a researcher of the G.U. project, explaining the whole "Morganna Incident" that occured in //sign and the first 4 games. The disk doesn't mention anything about Tsukasa other than the coma, but it does give a certain gold nugget of information: The researcher theorizes that Harald designed the Morganna System (the disembodied voice in the series) in such a way that it responded to certain personalities in order to further the artifical intelligence of Aura. Given that theory, I therefor think Tsukasa was the last peice of personality information that would need to be collected in order to awaken Aura. However, due to Tsukasa's problems, furthered by Morganna, his true nature was clouded, and therefor Aura could not be awakened. Morganna had developed self awareness, and probably didn't want to complete her purpose of awakening Aura in fear of becoming disposable.
